    Hi

I currently have a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, which I quite like. Great response for the keys, quiet and the lights are shiny.

    I'm looking for something new/different/equally shiny...Any recommendations?

The only one that has struck me recently is the Logitech K800 wireless illuminated keyboard which is pretty nice, but at around £100 a bit of a ripoff.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Why on earth would you change when you already have the best?

Top tip: if you have to buy something, buy something else.

I should have mentioned. I bust the Shift button and it just sort of sits there, propped at an awkward angle. I've tried fixing it but a piece of the plastic clip underneath it just snapped off. Epic fail.

Oh wow that blows. I ruined my K800 with a glass of rum on coke. Welcome to the club!

The only cheaper alternative I can think of is the Sidewinder X4. Backlit, IMO doesn't look crazy rubbish/gaming/bling. Ofcourse the touch isn't as good as on the illuminated, but it's not too bad, either.

I'm member of the 'mixer n coke on keyoard club' also ;-) but i did get the sidewinder x4 as a replacement. Very impressed so far, did take a little while to get used to slightly closer keys due to the macro keys on the side but now find it natural. The lights are not too bright and no bleeding, relatively discreet yet looks and build quality very good.

The other keyboard i was looking at the time was the logitech G110 but the price of the x4 is what drew me towards it.

I'm using a Microsoft curve which is a fine stop gap until you get around to buying the logitech :p

And if I can go off at a tangent.

I've been looking at getting a Logitech K800, but can't tell if the trim round the edge of the keyboard is clear or silver/grey.

Also don't suppose you know what 5 button wireless mouse it goes well with. I was looking at the "Logitech MX Performance Mouse" but then remembered my girlfriend is left handed and may need to use the PC from time to time and that does not look leftie friendly at all.

I think enermax made quite a nice one at some point (aurora?), might be worth checking out.

If you're going to be spending anything even approaching £100 go for a mechanical keyboard. Geekhack.org is your friend. :)

I personally use a Filco Majestouch Linear, and a Noppoo Choc Mini.

I don't understand why the majority go crazy for logitech keyboards - they are overpriced and rubber membrane mass-produced poop. They feel bad to type on and don't have n-key rollover. The Sidewinder X4 is a decent rubber membrane alternative.

Why don't you just speak to Logitech support? Their CS is one of the best in the industry, I'm sure they'll be willing to help you out if it's just a matter of a broken key.

Failing that, I'd just buy another Illuminated keyboard TBH. The K800 is almost exactly the same except it's wireless, so if you don't need that it's a waste of money.

I also have a Logitech Illuminated. If it broke, I would just get another, if they are still available. It is fantastic for everything, typing, gaming etc.

Here's another vote for the X4. Brilliant keyboard. It's not filled to the brim with useless media keys. The key action is nice and positive. The back lighting is tasteful. And they're fairly solidly built.

Oh, and the price makes them an absolute steal.
