well i feel the need to make a custom sub box for my shiney punto. to go with my system when i finnally finish my system i will have

JVC EXAD head unit on order from EBay
sony x-plod 13cm 3 way speakers in the rear
sony X-plod 10cm 3 ways in the dash
sony pentagon 10" sub in a homemade enclosure

i chose those speaker sizes cos they will fit the existing speaker holes ( well the 13cm ones in the back are mounted via a adapter. as they had 10cms in there originally

as for the amp to run the sub i have no idea

the sub box will look something like this
    [IMG]

as you can see someone has been playing with sketchup

i will prolly carpet it rather then the dimond plate. and it wont be so square it will fit snugley into the corner of my boot on the passenger side with the woofer pointing towards the boot door (as i have been told by the kind guys at bassjunkies) it makes the bass bounce round more making it sound nicer. ( no idea what the hell it means but thats my design.

will have finished pics sometime in january. ( might do a project log in that section. )

i had a buddy who did something similar to his mazda mx6, only he recessed it in his spare tire well, so all you saw was the speaker and just a lil bit of the box above. his design was very similar to yours. on the neck part of the thing, he stretched some womens nylons to make it a smooth transition and covered them with fiberglass, then sanded it smooth and it painted up real nice. its quite hard to make something that shaped out of particle board with limited hand tools.

dont think i have any pics, but ill see if i cant hunt them up.

stay the hell away from sony

    you have a punto

get a pair of comps up front, throw globs of power at them off a good amp

get a good sub and mount it in a correctly sized enclosure for that speaker
    anp that

and make sure its bloody bolted down well

what you mean im not getting them to fit nothing anyways as i will be doing it myself for the experiance i was jus looking to buy from there as there cheaper than halfords and seem to know what there goin on about.

whats wrong with there work anyways apart from they tend not to bolt down there sub boxes.

edit: what difference does the shape of enclosure make to the sound then i thaught i twas jus volume of the airspace inside.

as for sony i have listened to a JBL system and a sony system and i prefer the sounds of the sony apart from the ear splitting bass on my friends system ( dual 12" subs the bass is so loud you can feel the air moving and its all in a mk3 clio)

urm things like running powercables through bulkheads without a grmote (that can cause the car to catch fire)

and asecured sub box is lethal

sony well its crap is the best word to describe it

if there is a odd shape int he enclosure it can cause loading on part of the cone and there are NO hard or fast rules to where a sub will sound best pointed

jsut get to talkaudio as they really know there stuff (much better than bass monkeys)

First your enclosure looks to be ported, I take it you know how to properly tune the port to the right frequency for your subwoofer driver and enclosure size?

Familar with WinIsd Pro and Bass Box Pro 6?

No, if not then you should really be looking at a sealed for your first box as a custom ported design only work properly if you are very experienced in the area and understand the gains and losses you will be getting.

Also there is little point designing such a complex enclosure when you are putting such low grade make subwoofer driver in it.

xplod really is close to the bottom of brands, I'm sure there are plenty of other brands out there that will beat them for quality and loudness for a bit more money.

Also what are you doing about amplification, if really do want rear speakers as well you will need either a 5 channel or a 4 channel and a 2 channel bridged to the subwoofer.

My adice is to ditch the rears and put the money into the better speakers/amplification, either go for:

A single powerfull 4 channel amplifier which will run a single channel to each front and a pair of channels bridged mono to the subwoofer.

    or

A pair of 2 channel amplifiers onw for the fronts and once bridged mono for the subwoofer.

What is your total budget and we will see if we can come up with a better system/deal?

Can't agree more, before I sold the spider I had a great system running in there, I spent a little more on speakers up front and did it properly, build pods behind the door cards in fibreglass & MDF. It was great! All running off a single Genesis Profile 4. I never got to the sub stage, but after hearing the Genesis Audiophile 16's beating in their pods I had to question if I needed a sub? Just a shame that all my equipment is sat in a box under the bed waiting for my next car....

I bet that sounded lovely Paul, a combination of solid power, excelent speakers and good install really can blow you away.

I just did another system overhaul, I have taken out my Kicker IX702 amplifier, moved my Alpine V12 T757 to my Alpine fronts and upgraded my subwoofer amplifier to a nice new shiny Crystal CAM 300.2.

The thing is I really need to do additional sound deading as the panel and frame rattles are can be even worse now at higher volumes.

My *name edited* sub is good indeed especially with more power, been giving it lots of play making sure it is fully run in before any SQ review can be written.

you drive a punto so rear speakers arent needed, ignore whatever bass monkeys told you, get sound-dedening what sort of budget do you ahve?
