whats with the sudden gpu price rocket? I was set to order my 1080 strix today and now they are almost 1k?! I’m almost better off ordering a star wars edition titan xp from nvidia. Any idea what made this happen or when it’ll be back to affordable?

Where are you finding a 1080 for almost 1K?

$1000 AUS = £577.78 GB so in line with prices for a high end 1080 this side of the pond/s.

GPU prices don't make for good reading just now, I was lucky - I picked up my EVGA Cheesecake 1080 for £485 iirc

Ah ha. Of course, my bad.

Yeah that's why I did no upgrades when in NZ, just too expensive, although Aus is usually better just because of a bigger market.

Someone is just trying their luck with the used stock. It always happens on there.

I paid $630 for my card six months ago. It was a little pricey but it was still a totally free and profitable upgrade for me. So I didn’t care much.

Memory prices are continuing to increase and also they know AMD will have nothing to counter all year (thanks CES) so possibly price gouging. I'm buying my 1080 Ti today - I dont think NV will have a GTX 2080 that has similar price/performance moving to 12nm; I think they'll gouge prices like they did with 1080/1070 launch 2 years ago. It will be 7nm before there's significant change again, but the cost of 7 is VERY high.

I do not see how higher memory prices can be sustained before most people are priced out of the market.

£200 for 16gb ddr4 is already mental. We are nearly at the point where memory will be more than the cpu and already is if building a 32gb Ryzen build.

I think Nvidia could release the 2080 this year that offeres similar performance to the 1080ti for a little less money. Would give them a huge market lead.

If they do it'll sell out in seconds and suffer price gouging to Ti levels. I managed to get a Ti today, luckily, because most were out of stock.

A 1080Ti should be more than enough for you Rich. Recently I decided to get brave and chance my arm running 4k from DSR. Water cooled Titan XP does it pretty easily in all of the games I play. And let's face it, there are really no big titles on the horizon this year any way really. Nothing that is going to push graphics to another level any way I don't reckon. I thought about it, and realised that if I only got Dead Island 2 this year (and even that isn't slated for release this year) then I would be happy. All of the other stuff I looked at was a bit meh.
