Yes, this is because they are subject to students. I'm at university too; ours (Dell workstations, I think) die because of students trawling 4chan and trying to circumvent the safeguards to watch porn. I should think yours undergo similar abuse, it's not some inherent weakness in Macs. Our library IT room has 30-odd computers; turnover rate is about 2 daily for repair... :sigh:

That's probably it, lol, I'll stick to using my hp laptop at uni. It would probably be nice to get to use a working mac tho :)

You guys must either have poor network admins or seriously deviant students. Ours are very good, with a few going down on hardware troubles once in a while.

I don't think 'seriously deviant' is even close. Our IT department is absolutely kickass, but obviously some students would protest any sort of censorship on principle. By which I mean they don't want the network policy to prohibit their furry-midget-trisexual-3D-stop-motion-feature-length-warez-extreme-machinery-fantasy-cyber-roleplaying-porn. This, combined with the general lack of interest or knowledge about the most basic functions and features of a computer mean that shared computers are subjected to the attentions of the terminally stupid and horribly warped all the time. Having said that, the IT department is usually on top of all that...
