    Hey guys,

My 7900GT finally died this weekend (it's been on the way out for ~3 years) so I've had to fall back to the on-board 6100 chipset for the time being. I'm a *very* casual gamer, CS:S, C&C Generals and Minecraft is all I've really been playing. That said that I'd like the option to try more modern games with my replacement card (at lowest settings if necessary - see the next paragraph).

The problem is I'm on a srs budget of £50 and to be honest I'd rather spend nearer £30, if possible. The other restriction I have is my system only has space for a single slot card. Full height is not a problem and there's plenty of length available in there too.

So what suggestions can you guys throw at me? I'm looking at the 2nd hand market to get the most bang-for-buck but I can't get my head around all the different model numbers out there (it's been >5 years since I tracked this stuff seriously).

Oh finally, if two cards are kinda similar I'd be swayed by the one with the lowest power draw and heat dispersal. My little case boasts a modest PSU and the cooler I keep her the quieter she runs.

    Thanks.

/me hopes I haven't made any faux pas on my first post

i would say an 9800gt but all depends on your psu really, you can get better in that price range but the 9800gt is about one of the best youll get in single slot for that price unless of course you can find someone willing to an xfx 5770 for 50 quid?

I bought a 2nd hand 4770 for £33 last week. There is also the HD 4850 to consider.

You can get a Nvidia 9600 for around £30, I had a load of them selling on eBay for that much, but I've run out now.. an 8600GT is very cheap on eBay (about £20) but if they're the stock ones they are a bit noisey and run quite hot! Still a good card though :)

you can pick up 9600GSO's for £20, although as they're normally ex-folding farm cards, they might not be in the best condition.
