    Hi all,

I'm thinking of adding a bit of a boost to my vauxhall vectra 2.0 TDI. It's otherwise a standard car with no other mods. I'm just wanting to clear some of the smoke it produces and give it a little power increase. It's pretty ok as it is, but sometimes it can be a little hesitant on the acceleration. I'm not looking to go too mad, but just hoped someone could give me some advice on the products below.

i cant tell you much about the actual manufacturers apart from this, the official superchips company are the most commonly used company amongst barrys see barryboys they can if im not wrong in saying cause your car to rely on premium fuel but i doubt this would be the case with your deisel. the torque and Bhp graphs look nice but in reality i doubt if you would see that much power, if you read on the site somewhere there would be the hidden part about requiring other mods to get this much of a boost. if your wanting to clear the smoke a bit then get some injector treatment fluid and see if that helps much cheaper IMO if the smoke is thick and you give the car beats you might be burning oil so check the headgasket as that could be the problem. if its power your after then its an ok mod, its one you'd have to declare to you insurer as the changes they make cant be undone without them to do it unless you know your stuff.

oh and the tunit device i dont think is an actual service rather than a DIY unit that allows you to re-program your ECU (this means you do it!!!) and unless you know your stuff you could damage the car.

anone feel free to correct me

    cheers for that.

There isn't really much smoke, but occasionally I see it in the mirror when someone has there lights on behind me. I don't think there are any engine issues (although the oil level does eventually drop of it's own accord. I just thought it was because it's a diesel). The cars a V reg with only about 60,000 miles so I'd be suprised if there are any major issues at the moment.

The power boost valve is certainly another thing I might look into. I used to have one fitted to another car that I had and it did make quite a difference.

according to the tunit faq. They do the tuning, but you can adjust it manually or via a laptop. They also do a try before you buy, which might be an idea.

don't worry I've got no intention of becoming a barry, but a little performance increase would be nice

You can see far greater performance increases from soft-tuning with diesels than with petrol cars due to the way that the engine works - the fuel injection timing is the only thing that can be changed, and that is completely computer-controlled on modern cars, therefore it is possible to get quite a bit of power from tuning. If they offer a try-before-you-buy then I'd suggest that you go for it.

However, make sure you declare the mod to your insurers. :)

I have a friend who had a "box" in her Astra Estate for TDi engines, it was great, if you wanted to overtake, you flipped the switch, the performance gain was amazing.... the only downside was an increase in black smoke.

She's since sold the car, and I think she still has the box for sale, I could enquire for you if you want.
