Hi, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD495s and Grado SR80s. The SR80s are awesome but become uncomfy after a while. The Sennies are great - they're comfy and extremely light, but don't have as much to give volume wise and aren't quite up to the same standard as the SR80s. My question - Are there any supra aural cans out there that are: - comfy for long periods (lightweight?) - as good as the SR80s? - open backed? I've found absolutely none in my research. I must stress the fact that I am after cans that match the three criterais above Thanks for any help - there must be some out there... surely supra aural are when the pads sit on your ears - they do not cup or enclose them at all. i wear headphones all day long and so circumaural pads tend to cook my ears after a few hours which is both irritating and annoying. this is circumaural and this is supraaural
Need a budget. Also the 495's usually compare against the sr60's (uk pay lots more for grados) and are best used with a headphone amp. Also cheak out Head-Fi
Couple of reccomendations: Ergo model 2's Grado SR225's **Sennheiser HD-600** Personally as you might have guessed, for your budget i would go with the 600's. They sound great amped, and i have used them with 5 different headphone amps over the years (before i went for 650's) and they didn't dissapoint. The best amp being the graham slee solo. With a half decent sound card using ASIO you can get some amazing music through the 600's.
Look out on the bay of e for some HD600s, a mate of mine just snapped up a pair in mint condition for £25 BIN
Oops, forgot about this. Dom, the Ergos look really, really uncomfortable but thanks for the suggestion Are the SR255s likely to be any more comfy than the 80s? I'll do some reading on Head-Fi I guess. I wouldn't mind some HD600s but they look awfully... warm
Tried any different pads for your grados, I hear that can make them comfy but i like my sr-80s as they are.
