I have lots of speakers and would like to put them to good uses so i would like to so how make a surround sound I will be using HDMI and/or optical as my input I wouldn't like to spend to much how can i do this? also i have a 900 watt car sub can i use this so how too?
Are all the speakers different? Because you need to start with the same make and model of speaker, or else it'll sound awful.
This is also true. I've always felt that they exist more for novelty value. However, a car sub is designed so that it uses the boot as a speaker enclosure. The box that houses the driver is far too small for it to be used as a standalone sub, which causes a raised low frequency cut off and huge inefficiency.
I only got the sub to add the low frequency as the standard 6*8s in the car didn't do the job. plus the sub was very cheap of a mate. yes the speakers are different but it will sound better than what i have atm which is nothing
Are any of the speakers the same> Because they would sound better in a 2.0 setup than all the different ones would. But anyway, what have you got?
Just use one set of two, it will be better, trust me. What make and model are the sets anyway, we can pick the best one.
Well obviously you need an amp... http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/wharfedale/avr5110/whar-avr5110 dunx
The biggest problem is people alot of people use them and turn them up so load (so everyone else can hear them) that alot of the sound is lost to the car passangers. I have a small one in my car and it really adds to the sound system I have.
I actually have nothing against it. About 5 years ago I had a ludicrous system in a Mk4 Golf. It consisted of twin 12" Vibe subs in a single enclosure, powered by a 4kw Rockford Fosgate amp. I had a 2 farad power cap for it too. It really was a lot of fun. When I had to give lifts to uni mates, there would be full blown arguments between them, as to who would have to sit in the back. On loud bass notes or kick drums, the headlights and dashboard cluster would dim severely.
Damn that's powerful, I have nowhere near that in my car. My sub sounds really good in the car but you can barely hear it outside. Sometimes I turn it down because it can be overbearing to the rest of the music.
On first thoughts I was thinking "screw the nay sayers do it and see what it sounds like" but on consideration, your one speaker short of a surround system, chances are you'll need a seperate amplifier for the car sub as surround amps usually accomodate active subs. Not knowing the impedance of the speakers, they may not match the requirements of an AV amp. So all in all I think the best way to use your current speakers for a surround sound system is to put them up on ebay and use the proceeds towards a commercial solution. It's not that it's impossible but what you would end up with would be a little nuts and the money would be better spent on a commercial solution.
Could I make an amp? I'm at work so I'm not sure of the makes but I know I have a good pair hiden away.
