I am finishing an EL wire project for my son which is basically his name in acrylic letters routed out with blue El wire run behind in the routed channel. The letters are mounted on 1/4 plexi sprayed with glossy black on the black. Now for the problem. I have 2 inverters. One is a continuous inverter and the other is a sequencer. The sequencer has 9 modes but NONE continuous. What I want to do is switch between the sequencer and the continuous inverter. The sequencer is 5 channels with a common. I guess I could use a 5+ terminal switch but I don’t know where to get that (except for those enormous rotary switches like they use for cheap video switchers). Is there a simpler way?
Watch the voltage rating on the switch, lot of times the EL runs at 90-200+ Vac so some smaller switches may not be able to handle the voltage
voltage isn't really a problem for most switches just as long as there's insulation between your finger and the contacts Current is what you want to worry about, but it's no problem in an EL wire application
Thanks for the advice. I found the perfect switch at DigiKey, but it is non-stocking and they probably won't order it for quantity 1. Does anyone know where I can find a 6pdt slide switch (preferably on-off-on)? I hace searched DigiKey, All Electronics, JameCO. Can this be done anyother way? I know this is crude but I think it conveys the general idea.
