The switch question got answered and thank you everyone that posted due to your help the mod is coming along in leaps and bounds However it raised an interesting possibility if you read post 6 and 7 you will understand switch question that was answered is below I'm used to using rocker switches which only have a positive and negative attachment needed. Got a new type of switch today which is illuminated and has three connectors. Power, which would be the yellow or the red, ground which would be black and in between is a third connector labeled ACC. Any idea what's meant to connect to it? I would presume that it's for the power to reach the LED within the switch itself, but I know next to nothing about electronics so I though I'd better ask before I make the switch go bang!
That middle "ACC" is the power out of the switch to whatever you are turning on. It is the same as a 2 connector switch, but with the addition of the ground for the light. Have fun man!
The 'ACC' stands for 'Accessory', in other words the thing you're wanting to switch power to. Any illuminated switch needs an extra connection to ground, nothing to do with the switching action, it just lets the illumination work when the switch is on (or maybe always, if you need to easily find the switch in a dark place like an outside loo.) It's usually like this Code: Power in--------o/ o----+------Acc | Light | | Ground To have the light always on, just reverse the 'Power' and 'ACC' wires.
ok may be I'm being thick but just double checking switch's I have are this one I want to wire at least one of them up to 4 of these its a bad image I know but basically the switch is 12 volt and the leds are 12v so they should run stright from a psu but i want the to be able to turn all four of the lights either on or off. the way I understand this at the moment is i would have the switch . @ . @ . @ ------ 1 2 3 so leg one is labeled power and the red cable from one of the psu power connecters would connect to it leg three is label ground and the black cable that is next to the red would connect to it so leg 2 should be a cable that i connect from that leg to the led positive so where should the led black cable go to ? the black cable that is next to the red on the molex maybe ? if i'm being thick just say so
ok worked it out from what you said i was just being thick thanks now i can continue with the mod I'm doing needed these switches for a bay device I'm building that switch will be controlling all the lights that are underneath the case now i just have to find a use for 4 momentary switches that are connected into the front of the dvd player front panel thats being attached to the side on/off switch turns the pc on/off play switch resets the pc open/close is going to be re-routed to open and close stealth dvd drive but stuck as to what to use the others for I'm left with the stop button, pause button, prev button and the next button.
You could always wire these to keyboard functions such as start/stop/pause or next track and other such things. You could accomplish this by getting a old usb keyboard that has these buttons on the keyboard and trace from the key matrix to the controller board for the switch lines. Then just tap into one of your motherboards internal usb headers and go with it.
any chance that you could explain how to wire the keyboard matrix up correctly or how to actually go about it as it seems like a really cool idea and it seems a shame not to use the rest of the keys. I have also asked on another forum and got this response so far Other Forum
