    sup guys

    *zapwizard* + other electrical gods..

i got a switch from my case (the 21-cd tower) i have no idea if i can use it to turn a normal ATX pc on\off. ive got another switch i could use, but id rather have this nice little black one. heres what they say.

    the AT switch
    6A/125-250VAC
    1-6HP/250VAC
    1-10HP/125VAC

    the ATX switch
    8A/126A 250VAC
    0A 250VAC

now, ive no idea what that actually MEANS, but i do know they both click nicely... and the old one fits in a pre-made hole id like to keep... thanks for any information you coulg give me.

ATX Power switches (the one of the front of cases) are low voltage and momentary

AT Power Switches are High Voltage (Hence the bit of mains cable attached to them) and are latching.

The only thing stopping you using a AT power switch on an ATX system is the Latching/Momentary bit :( But if by some wierd fluke the AT switch is momentary you can use it.

well, ther are only 2 connections on the back of the switch, thats one reason why i think i can use it, i dont think it was used for on\off with the powersupply, and the powersupply unit was different (hot-swappable) so i dont think it had the same kind of switch as a normal AT supply unit... it just has 2 headers to connect wires to, and a switch that flips back to normal position after i press it. i wish i had a working diskdrive =P id take a picture. :wallbash:

Get your multimeter out. Set it to Ohms (continuity).

Hold the leads on the 2 connections on the back, and press and release the switch. if it keeps continuity, It's latching and you can't us it. If it only makes contact when you hold it in, then you can use it.
Reset switches have always been momentary, AT or ATX, so if it was a reset type switch, you can use it.
