Windows Sygate Personal Firewall

Lot of questions from me lately

Just wondering about updates in Sygate Personal Firewall, it has two options, one called SPF updates which i'm guessing is the core program then theres Signature updates which is greyed out, not only do i not know what this is for but also why is it greyed out? Are these updates important to keep me secure? And if so are they trying to tell me that i must pay to get these updates? Cheers .

Something similar to virus definitions updates.
