    Ok, a friend of mine is trying to remove symantec anti-virus from his PC but it wasn't in add/remove programs so he started in safe mode and deleted it. Now however when ever he right clicks a shortcut he gets a message saying

    "please wait while windows is configuring symantec anti-virus"

    thing is he is now using AVG free edition and he wants symantec GONE!!!!

    I'm presuming its the reg entry or that symantec leaves an auto installer behind somewhere.

    Firstly, i'd advise against ever running anything from symantec that isn't ghost, the only decent program they do :hehe:

    For slightly more useful advice though:

    start -> run -> msconfig

    disable any startup processes / services that look like they have anything to do with symantec, then reboot and try it

    You're right google is my friend but if you don't have anything useful to post please don't post at all (especially as I'd already tried Google as I would have expected anyone to do before posting here.)

    already done that but thank you.

    thank you

    'remove norton' and 'remove symantec anti-virus' both give the answer as first hit, what have you been searching for? :confused:

    symantec removal tool unfortunately when i try all the procedures from the 1st few of the google results its tells me that symantec version 9 or later is installed and that I need to remove it from add/remove programs before it can remove the program.

    but its ok now I've talked him through manually editing the reg and fixed it. :)
