Question is pretty self-evident. The laptop is an older Thinkpad running Xubuntu 8.04, and the desktop has XP Professional. I have about ~10GB of music on the desktop that I want to copy to the laptop. What's the easiest way to do this? I have an ethernet crossover cable, which I assume will probably be necessary for the transfer. Normally I'd use my iPod, but I don't have that anymore thanks to relationship problems gone south. Thanks in advance y'all.
1) Set a static IP each for both the desktop and laptop. 2) Share the folder/ drive within which the files lie. 3) Run the SMB/ CIFS client on the Ubuntu and you'll be able to access the shared folder/ drive. 4) Copy and paste. See the Ubuntu documentation on how to browse Windows fileshares (SMB) here: http://library.gnome.org/users/user-guide/stable/nautilus-accessnetwork.html.en
