hi all, i currently use Thunderbird as my email client and the lightning plugin for my calender. i use about 3 copies of Thunderbird on different computers so i was wondering if there is anyway to get the 3 computers talking to each other and sharing the same calender so i don't have to make changes on all of them?? 2 computers are windows and one is Linux (fedora 8) thanks
quick and easy way to share the calenders would be to create a calendar on one machine in a shared place as a .ical file. Such as a NAS or a machine which is always on and then connect the other machines that calender. You could also do the same with the profiles which would automatically sort out the calenders. By changing the profile.ini file found in the Thunderbird, application settings, to look for a profile stored on a network drive. you would have to change the .ini file for all machines but then all you copies of thunderbird would use the exact same profile.
with the computers 2 are on the same network when used (work) and the other is my personal at home so a different network. ive got a web server if it makes it any easier..
you could place the calendar as an ical file on the web server and link to the calendar using a url or you could google calendars, install the provider for google calendars add-on for lightning which would then allow you to connect and update the calendar from any of your machines by using lightning, or using the web interface which google calendar uses on any machine with an Internet connection.
I use the Lightning + google calendar + provider for google calendar addon approach, it works very well, so +1 for that idea. It can take a second or two for all your stuff to load when you change e.g. what month you're viewing. All you need to set it up is the 'provider for google calendar' addon for thunderbird and a google account. You can set up as many calendars as you want (e.g. I have a public and private one) and add them both to thunderbird too
