    Hi all,

In another thread here at the most excellent Bit-tech, I have succeeded in resolving a problem i was having with my Radeon in that it locks up when it gets hot...

So... I have been investigating cooling options, and have seen these from Overclock, and a lot of stuff from Maplin UK (Go to Overclocking.Modding > Cooling > System Cooling).

What I wanna know is whether these things will do the job... I don't need to freeze the chip I just need to increase airflow around/away from the hotspots enough for the damn thing to run properly.

Some people have said they're great, others have they blow...

I wanna get the skinny from the Koolmasters here @ Bit-Tech...

    Cheers,

    Javen

    Excellent!

I wanted to get a few, as I intend to mod them somehow (will have a better idea when I get my mitts on them.

The only appealing thing about the Overlock stock was that they are UV red reactive, but seeing as i don't have UV (yet) thats a stoopid reason to buy them!

    Cheers!

So... have you actually used the item?

I read this review and they seemed to think it made quite a bit of difference...

My plan was to sandwich the AGP card between two of these, to draw heat from both sides of the board (especially as I have a removable panel above the AGP card but no correspodning slot!).

    What do you think?

those blowers are great well the one i modded was i put a 7/12v switch in it and then ripped the fan out and hot glued an 80mm fan to it it sat about 2mm away from the heatsink on my GFX card and worked great :p Best thing to do with them i think

    Thats a pretty cool idea...

My main thought was to connect them up to the GPOs on my MO MX212, so I can use LCDC to detect any 3D games starting (which it already does) and then switch on the additional fans to keep the GPU card cool.

Either that, or an external manual switch...

The benefit is that they're so damn cheap (from eBuyer) that I'm gonna buy a few and play around with them to see what cooling I can get!

    Cheers,

    Javen

these type of blowers are crap, i played around with them a few years ago, if u intend to cool your agp card with them they will probably make it hotter as they interfere with the fan allready on the card, better making a blowhole on the side panel of you case and putting a nice 120x120x45mm ystech in there.

And cut a huge hole in my Lian-Li Window? Never!

    LOL

I am just trying to get some reasonable cooling to augment what is currently there...

In about 6 months I shall be going for full water-cooling and just want a solution that will tide me over in the interim...

There have been some wicked suggestions earlier in this thread and I intend to investigate many of them.

I am sure that with a little perseverance, I will come up with a solution which will solve my problems quite happily.

Got to agree with Xen0phobiak on this one......I tried these horrible little things a few years ago too, before i took the plunge [pun intended] and i actually increased the temps of a GeForce3 quite considerably by interfering with the stock fan.......basically it was working against the stock fan to the extent of slowing the fan down thus doing more harm than good.

    Hi all,

I have just detailed my final "theoretical" plans for this hardware in this thread.

I'm interested to see what the Koolboyz think of this set-up...

Please bear in mind that as far as my knowledge goes, this should work... but I'm very keen to know if I'm talking and thinking total rubbish!
