    Hi,

I just ordered a Dell 2005FPW. It will be uses as main monitor. I'm going to use my 2yrl old Acer AL718 17" TFT as a secundary monitor.

The dell is a nice black but the Acer is ugly beige, so I want to paint it black. It seems to be "clicked" toghether instead of screwed. I really hate those plastic click-things because they always break when u try to take them apart.

Should I just tape over the screen surface, buttons(round) and ventilation holes (back) and paint it ? Or do I take it apart?

I realise I will get a better finish when taking it apart, but I don't want to break off the little plastic click-pins, because then I might have trouble putting it back toghether.

    All help/advice/.. is very welcome,
    Thanks,

    L

PS: What paint do I use fo the chassis? Normal spray-paint?

If you do settle on tapeing it, try sone paint out on the tape first, to make sure that it doesn't seep through or work its way under. A good ammount of low tack masking tape would probably be your best bet. I hate the clicky things too, so much so that I wouldn't risk it and would try masking instead.

Bottom line, I'd mask it but make sure the tape's up to it first. Oh, and good luck :thumb:

Thanks for your advice. I think I will mask it with some tape. I will probably buy some real masking tape from the paintshop (ducttape will use alot of stickyness behind).

I'm pretty sure I can mask the screen-area pretty good. But the round buttons will be hard.. if paint gets in the hole, it will probably glue the button in.

Oh and very good advice on testing the paint on the tape first! would have forgotten that.

get some vinyl die (dye?). Gives a much better result, an it's less work.

I would take it apart, though... spraying the internals might not be a god idea (there is lots of vent holes that paint get trough.)

For the bottons, cover the whole thing and then just use a blade to cut around it. Much easier than trying to fit little bits of tape to the button.

    Hi,

I was planning on covering the vent-holes with tape. Since they are at the back, I won't see if some parts are still beige. I know taking it apart will make it easier to paint, but I don't want to mess it up so that I can't put it toghether again.

Thanks on the tip for vinyl die. Does that come in spray-bottle? I'll ask in the shop aswell..

Also, LockmanX thanks for that tip, its a good idea.

the vinyl die comes in spray bottles... it's a sort of paint. (it's wery thin, so spray THIN coats. and don't sant anythng down or use basecoat. Should e applied on newly washed plastic.

And be careful when taping on the screen... I wold suggest getting some sort of thin plastic and try to put that in between the bezel and the screen itself. (using masking tape can result in an uneven painting edge, or a thin white line along the screen.)

Again thanks for your help! Great idea with the plastic to put between the screen and the bezel. I think that might work! Fantastic idea! Thanks a million!
