Link This thing looks crazy dangerous! Remote area denial they call it, I call it one hell of a lot of tasers. They even put a sign on saying 'this way to enemy'. I even hear you an daisy chain each one for limitless muscle spasm fun. (and yes I felt the LOL tag was sutable since tasers are harmless fun (unless you have a pacemaker or something))
You're "lol" at tasers? I think you have sick sense of humour, I have heard of and seen videos of too many elderly people and children being tasered for me to find any humour in them. I feel like I could say something stupid at this point, so I'll shut up for now. H.B.
I'm forced to agree, Tasers are nasty things, they're not a non-lethal weapon. If pushed anyone can die by Taser. Seeing someone being Tasered makes me feel ill.
It's subjective. You may feel strongly about the topic, but you're coming across as being aggressive and unpleasant. It's not the first time that you've tried to enforce your own emotive opinions on others here - The thread on engraving springs to mind. If you keep behaving like that, people will just get sick of you. For your own sake, get down off the high horse of morality and chill out a bit.
I thought it best not to reply to further comments on that thread after what was said, but I had no problem after wolverine said he was a goth. As for tasers, well, some people inexplicably do find them amusing, and I did over-react. Thanks. H.B.
Wolverine didn't say he was goth, someone else mentioned that. He said he was an Atheist. As far as tasers go, they are not harmful to the average person. And how is it you've seen so many older people and children being tasered? Are they violent and incarcerated? If so, would you prefer they were wrestled down and then drugged or shot like a lame horse? Or was this some savagery committed by a sick individual getting his rocks off on their pain, in which case, it's not the taser that is dangerous.
True, the power mad people behind the tasers are the thing that's wrong, not the taser itself, however, this is also true for guns and almost anything else. Even so, why would you want to sit down and laugh at others being tasered? No matter how much they have been asking for it, those things hurt.
It's easy to laugh at people who voluntarily get tasered, because it's a stupid way to get your rocks off. It's also easy to laugh at someone who is out of control and get tasered by the police, it can bring the biggest most beligerent fellow down to his knees. Seeing someone get tasered who doesn't deserve it is not funny in the least, it's very painful indeed. BTW, that 58 sec. video took about 10 minutes to load......
I saw a taser get used on a drunk guy once, was anything but funny. The cop walks up to the guy and pulls out the taser, standing about 10 feet or so back, says "get on the ground now" and waited maybe.... 1 tenth of a second before pulling the trigger on the taser. The guy just went down. Yes I left out some details in the story, but i think you get the picture.
It gets worse, they've also managed to build a taser into a 12-gauge shotgun shell. link at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/07/10/taser_shotgun/
Since I've been following these developments for a while, I have to admit I find this amusing too, it's just personal tastes. Personally, I love Jackass and all that and think that the idea of tasering like this is cool in its OTTness. Sure, people getting killed by them by accident (they are LESS-lethal) or getting tasered in riots is not funny, but the device as a concept and tool for humour is. It's like guns. Somebody getting murdered? Not funny. But we all still love The Matrix and action films which have guns in. From a certain point of view, this has a lol factor. From another, it's interesting design. From another, it's a sad indication of the opposition facing police and an inditement of modern society. All views are valid, lets just not get all over-emo about this. K? As a side note, those who think tasers are awful things should weigh up the alternatives of using gas (ineffective, just as much risk) or weapons (more effective, more dangerous) and how these devices will save lives. Kind of reminds me of the bit in The Watchmen where Dr Manhattan teleports all the rioters back to their houses, but seven of them die of heart attacks in the process. Eggs, omlete situation. The shotgun version btw is designed not to be any more powerful or dangerous, but is intended as the first wireless version of the a taser.
