    Lo chaps..
Well im off to India for me hol's during december but ive been thinking of getting a DS to pass me time when im over there....and as i have no handhelds anymore and one console(GC) which i dont use i was thinking of getting a DS bundle with Mario kart..which usually retails for £99

But as i have shares in BAA i get a £5 off voucher and also its would be Tax free at the Airport....but does anyone know how much it would work out as??

So if the DS retails for £99 in the usual shops how much would it be in a Dixson's Tax free from the Airport??

i think its minus 17.5% so it would be about £83 - your £5 voucher so £78. but dont quote me on that

    It's taxed at 17.5%, so around £85. Minus the £5 voucher, £80

EDIT: Monkey200SX, You do not take away 17.5%, you divide it by that.

    So it's 99/1.175

    Then minus £5.

Which should give £79.26 when the figures are rounded up, not down :)

It's well worth it and if you want to get another game, Kirby, Tony Hawks, Sonic Rush and Advance Wars are all very good. I'd say Advance wars will last you the longest if you like that kind of game.

Wee bit pedantic when we're talking about a percentage of 99 ;)

Wouldn't it just be cheaper full-stop to purchase the DS in India somewhere? Although that flight will seem a lot longer without it I guess :p

To be pedantic back on my calculator, i type in 99 then minus 17.5 and press the % button and it takes away 17.5%, if i said minus 17.5 i could not agree more

    17.5% of 99 is 17.325
    So 99 - 17.325 = 81.675
    81.675 - 5 = 76.675

    No no no no.

It does not work like that. To prove that the answer is not correct, multiply the figure (81.675) by 1.175. You should be getting exactly 99. But you don't.

Tax is 17.5% of the tax free price. So you add 17.5% of the tax free price on top. What you are doing is taking away 17.5% of the FULL PRICE. Which in fact is wrong! :)

The price is £79.26 after taking that £5 off as you DIVIDE by the percentage (17.5) not takeaway. :)

    Simple maths...

£99 is not 100% of the price, its 117.5% :)

thats what i was thinking but you know..something hardware/electronics work out nearly the same...and as i have 2x£5off vouchers i would like to use them.
but i cant use both vouchers at the same time...shame but ill prob get the DS as i want to play multi-player and also been thinking about modding the damn thing...ill have too see if terminal4 in heathrow has a good Dixsons or other electronics store around selling it.

As for the maths im seeing it as around the £80 mark with the £5 voucher...still worth the investment as a single DS is £80 by its own.

Anyone got any suggestions on any more games i should get?

man this turned into a maths lesson :p

I havn't got a DS and don't know anyone who bothered buying one. I'm not one for handhelds (the original GB was the only on I owned (and still own :p)) but I got tired of nin$tendo, used to be great but I don't know what they think they're doing.

I woul prefer a PSP over a DS but there is a considerable price difference. Well I don't know, £100 seems pretty steep for a handheld but I suppose thats the way things are nowerdays.

i was thinking of a 17.5% discount and then a £5 coupon... but since he's not paying tax and the price before tax is £99, then won't he just be paying £94 instead?

I own a DS and have found that I have spent dozens of hours on both Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Mario Kart:DS. Mario Kart:DS is an amazing game. If you enjoyed the previous games you will undoubtedly love this one. It has a total of 32 tracks, 16 new and 16 retro that go as far back as the SNES, 16 characters, 36 different karts and tons of unlockable content. On top of that MK has free out of the box wi-fi multiplayer.

    Castlevania is also VERY good.

    So get those.

EDIT. I see some smiley have snuck their way into my messege due to my lack of seperating the : from the D. So deal with it :D

Ah, I think you're getting confused. In the UK tax is included in the price already. Unlike the US and Canadian system, where tax is added on afterwards.

So the total price, including tax is £99!

Why do you American's do that I don't know, but it was damn annoying when I went to America and Canada!
