I got a new rig recently and i installed in it a temperature guide that tells me temperatures of my case, cpu etc.

However, im not sure what ideal or optimal temperatures things should be running?

    CPU idle: 35C 95F
CPU running some pwnage game: 45C 116F

    HDD idle: 30C
    HDD: 35C 95F

    VGA idle: 30C
    VGA: 36C 98F

Is it time for liquid nitrogen cooling? or are my 80mm fans doing a good job?

    SPECS: 4800x2, 512 Radeon X1900, X-fi, 74gb raptor 10k

This is fine... very good, in fact - you shouldn't worry unless it goes above 55 or so.

Again, nothing to worry about. Hard drives can work reliably up to about 60°C, so you should aim to keep it below 50 or so.

This part is strange, however... they're too low! Are you using an external temperature probe or software monitoring? You should be able to use ATI Tool (Google for more info) to check the core, vreg and ambient temperatures from your graphics card. I'd expect an X1900 on anything but WC to go over 50°C at least, probably even 80 with stock cooling.

Those are pretty low temps for the GPU, I have an x1800xt that idles about 54C and tops out at 67C or so (playing games for a couple hours, don't know how high it would go if I looped 3dmark). :sigh:

was this temperature guide a software program or a sensor unit that uses pads to attach to your cpu, system, vga???

try using a program called speedfan, systool or mbm5 but yes your temps are very good

and i doubt youll be messing with liquid nitrogen cooling but hey knock yourself out just dont forget to keep a worklog on here

Theres no way that your VGA temps are right. I have an X1900 and I wouldn't say that the airflow in my case is bad yet the GPU idles at 55C and loads at about 75.

Yeah, downloaded a probe for my motherboard to check the temps of the CPU and they came out exactly the same as my temperature gauge. The graphics card temperature was wrong, i had missed placed the temperature input. I checked it out on my cat control centre and it idles at around 48C and loads at around 65. Which allows me some overclocking i believe :).

All those temps seem fine, inculding your new graphics card temp, the X1x00 series do run quite hot but are still well within their 125C (IIRC) thershold :)

    are you insane

liquid nitrogen cooling?.... holy crap - for those times when you dont want your cpu to go above -30c.......

Ha, your supposed to overclock it so it stays at about 0c.

Hello guys, this is my first post and I am glad to have my first post here, it seems everyone is nice. Well, my X1900 XTX has been at 53 degrees celcius idle for awhile, when the card goes in full load the temperature reaches 83 degreees celcius. I have no idea why and how it goes that high, but I am a bit worried. What is the safe temperature my card can be before I get concerned? If there is any way to improve the temperature of my GPU then please say so, you think adding Arctic Silver 5 on the GPU die would help the temp more, or would it have no effect?

    Hello, and welcome to Bit-Tech!

Those temperatures are nothing to worry about at all; your graphics chip is rated to withstand in excess of 100°C. I would only start to worry if it loads at over 90°C for an extended period of time - not deadly, but it would indicate that something isn't optimal somewhere along the line.

Thank you for the response, but can I have the source that you found this information on? I just want proof you know because I spent a lot of money on this card and I do not want heat to destroy it at full load. :wallbash: hehe

Hitman's word is law! :D Your temps are fine...my 9800XT ran at around 87C for over 2 years, and it's still running great. I didn't like it running that high though, so I bought an aftermarket cooler. So, your temps are fine, but if you want to get it cooler, I don't blame you.

You can't entirely trust onboard temp readings, sometimes they are just way out - either too high or two low. The acid test is just to run Prime95 and 3Dmark (on full detail) looped for a few hours. If your system is okay then there is nothing to worrry about, if it needs more cooling it will crash and either quit the programs or reboot.
