Please edit that quote! I'm having a deja-vu!:hehe:
I meant swapped the groud wires with each other. I just did some reading and it doesn't look like it matters. With my luck, I figured it did. Now I need a way to find my short. It's possible that the insulation isn't completely cut on the connector. I may just need to add solder blobs in those spots.

If you just swapped the ground wires around, it does nothing. They're grounds! I'm guessing it's a cold solder or something somewhere is all.

Edit: lol. Posted at same time.

    OK. False alarm.:D
I was thinking the connections were loose on the molex plugs because they were made for thicker wires. When I popped the wires out the insulation was not cut through. Removing the insulation left the wires flopping around in the jack like a catfish, so I added a lump of solder to each section.(-more deja-vu. I'm repeating a lot today.) I had to smack them into the molex with a mallet, so I KNOW they are making a connection now. The drives work fine now.

I'd say more likely a soldering or crimping issue; generally all the ground lines are connected together in the PSU anyways, a ground is a ground is a ground.

Thanks guys. I fixed it. And the cold is gone now.:D

    @Teknokid- You mock my pain?:eyebrow::hehe:

I also got the front loading USB wires long enough to reach the new board. I couldn't find the USB jumpers on the board until I checked the manual. Every wire connection on the board is stuffed up under the reservoir!
Looks like USB 1.0 cables and jacks are compatable with 2.0.

I did some spectacular blunders on Hypnotoad because I worked with a fever. My favorite was drilling a countersink on the faceplate on the wrong side of the panel.:duh:

-The wiring I reworked. I cut out the insulation and added a bead of solder on these spots. Then did the same thing to the end plug.
-I drilled a hole in the corner of the PSU cover for a support beam for the pipes.
-I couldn't get a countersink going in here, so I fixed the captive nut in place with heat. I put it on the end of the screw in the pliers, heated it up, and jammed it right in there.:D I added a little epoxy for insurance.
-My current state of 'organized.' I think I will have a problem getting the newly spliced USB cable behind the PSU. The big fat splice point is right where the PSU is pressed against the back wall.
-I added one of the wire looms to the power wiring set.
-Let's have another moment of silence for yet another victim. This time I have destroyed an old floppy cable to splice the USB extension cord. Proof that I'm back to normal is that I was able to solder IDE ribbon cable. You can see here that I added some extra color coding to the cable to keep the wires in the right order. The ASRock board's USB jumpers are at the TOP of the board, just under the pipe that hangs over the video card. I was a long reach AND a tight fit! The area under the motherboard must look like a rat nest at this point. All my extra wiring is jammed up under there.:D
    [IMG]
-The finished splice job. You can see the sleeved connections are huge.

Yesterday I ordered a cheap mouse and new floppy drive from Geeks. I won't know how I will mod the mouse 'til I see it. I splurged and got a NEW floppie drive.:jawdrop: -What the hell, five bucks! It was cheaper than 10 floppies on the same page!:hehe:
At this point I need to:
-Sleeve the CD and HDD IDE cables,
    -Make a fanguard,
-Organize the wiring for the bottom drivebay,
-Make the bracket for the CPU pipes,
    -Mousemod!
-Make a few more screws for the PSU rigging.

I'm soooo close to closing it up and moving on. (jinx!:worried:)

    More thanks for Danger Den!

I hate ppl with sponsors... LOL
But I will bow my head and take 2 minutes of silence for your last victim... God knows I've had some victims myself! :)

At this point you need to; GO GO GO! lol Looking forward to see what else you can cram into this! :) Love the mod!

    Thanks, you two!

@AngelOD- You could get a sponsor with ease. I can't do much modding right now, I'm working on 2 houses.

@Wimod- I don't know about the looking better part:D, But odd ideas and problem solving are part of my job. I get sent to fix stuff when no one else can, (or wants to.)
P.S.-I've seen duct tape used for many wrong things: Ceiling patches, patching a bathtub drain, patching the seal around a kitchen sink, holding a door knob in place, to hold electrical wiring, to fix a drawer, to cover holes in walls... and it was all done in one house.:duh: That dumbass is still #1 on my list of all time most destructive tenants.
Right now I'm fixing up after #2: "drunk/violent FEMA boy."

I DO use floppies from time to time. They work well transferring to the antique web surfing machines. All the pics I upload are transferred via floppy.
Just once I wanted to try stealthing a floppy drive.
-I just remembered something and had to check. The hole for the old floppy drive has a notch for the mounting bar. The new drive is square, (in the pic.) I may have to do some cutting to fit the new drive.:worried: That will mean popping the faceplate off and making a ton of dust.

Aw, that blows man. I know the feeling though. I've mounted a plate over something and realized I forgot to cut/sand something, then remove it and fix and remount it, and realized I forgot something ELSE. I think with my current rig I did that 3 friggin' times. Eh, third time's a charm I suppose.

And I give up some love for floppies too, dammit! :thumb:

    (Edit: oh, god...I just left that comment w i d e open!)

Yeah...any sentence ending with 'my floppie' gets me in trouble. I think I may be OK. I had to pass the faceplate through the hole. (well, now EVERYTHING sounds dirty!)

True, but that can be solved by slipstreaming the drivers into a new install disk using nLite.

Thanks rytmehunden, It would be a dull build log if I never admitted my mistakes. Someone would ask why I downgraded my motherboard eventually, Then it would be a little Bit-Tech Watergate.:D
