    Unless I'm missing something wouldn't people just delete the encrypted game files and re-install or re-download the game ? After getting rid of the ransomware that is.

    It's fire and forget though. They write the code, release it and sit back - some people with more money than sense will likely cough up.

    Equally, anybody with files they value at $500-$1000 without a proper backup is asking for trouble.
