Ooh I can understand how that was a good one. Best band I have seen recently was Apartment 26 at Highbury along with the Scenes (formerly Vex Red), The Blueprint and <name removed for fear of Penski humiliating > (involves family members)
The Manics are tools. Any band that can publicly wish for someone to die of AIDS should be hung, drawn, and quartered. Best gigs I've been to? I was at the last ever Bis gig, that was amazing. Asian Dub Foundation at Glasgow Garage was also great. Rancid at the Barrowland, British Sea Power were awesome too, NOFX in 1998, Pulp, I'm sure I'll kick myself for forgetting someone too... Sam
Linkin Park- MEN Arena 21/11/2003 The suport bands where terrible but it was the first arena gig i'd been to in years. And LInkin Park certainly rocked the arena. Apart from that it was probably The Wildhearts or Skid Row
I was going to say rubbishbandIcan'tremember/Mono/DEP for mine, but the tour you mentioned was pretty special too. I think Mono pips it though.. I generally despise mouth breathers, but I have to admit that my jaw hasn't ever been as slack as it was when Mono were playing. Rather mind blowing. Next monday for me. Really looking forward to it... got my dance shoes ready and everything.
Nicky Wire, said, on stage, that he hoped Michael Stipe would die of AIDS. "I hope he goes the same way as Freddie Mercury". There was also one infamous occasion when he said that all (new age) travellers should be locked up... "rounded up and put on an island" were his exact words I think. Like I said: tool. Sam
Wow, I never even knew Mono did a tour with DEP of all people. That's pretty incredible. A source of mine insists they'll be coming over again this summer. Nice. They are doing a split release with Pelican, should be awesome. A band I'd love to see live, definitely! Not so sure about the likelihood of getting to the Isis gig though. Although I've been anticipating it since I first heard rumours of it in December I've just come down with what appears to be a nasty bout of flu (hence the late posting, can't sleep) so will be absolutely gutted if I'm out for the count, so to speak. I missed Pig Destroyer / Total ****ing Destruction / Halo / Narcosis for the same reason. Grrrr.
Yeah if you saw them at Wolves, I was there too, pretty class gig, in my Top 10 Hmm cba just listing my best... Large Venue: Best - Incubus w/ Brand New (NEC Arena) 2nd Best - Greenday w/ NFG (NIA) Atmosphere - A Perfect Circle (Bham Acad) Crazyness - Strike Anywhere at Deconstruction Fest/lost Prophets (always really entertaining gigs) (London Brixton Acad(or maybe astoria, cant remember)) Small Venue: Best - RX Bandits without a doubt (Bham Acad ) 2nd Best - No Comply @ Little Civic Atmosphere - Thirteen Senses (Bham Acad 2) Crazyness - Minus at Wolves Little Civic (Crazy+naked prostitutes+Minus doing Cocaine (was rep'ing for the gig so hung out with them beforehand ) Good live bands to see mention : Pitchshifter, Blur, Alkaline Trio, Millencolin (all good acts) Crap Bands to see : Distillers, Eagles of Death Metal, NFG, Lagwagon (just too old for live acts really, they looked dead on last day of tour...) - M@
Unlucky about Isis, dude.. same thing happened to me for Pig Destroyer This might cheer you up a bit though: Mono UK tour dates. 5/16 - UK - Leeds @ Josephs Well 5/17 - UK - Bristol @ The Fleece 5/18 - UK - Manchester @ Road House 5/19 - UK - Glasgow @ King Tuts 5/20 - UK - Sheffield @ Corporation 5/21 - UK - London @ Garage Think that was posted up on www.mono-44.com a few hours ago.
Nice! Shame I'm not near any of those venues... But I know a fair few of the local events guys are keen to put them on. Still feeling terrible but if I can pick up some earplugs I think I'm gonna try and ride it out. Heh.
Tough one, but would have to be between; Talib Kweli @ Jazz Cafe, Camden - Beautful Struggle Tour 2004 and Jurassic 5 @ Academy, Manchester - Quality Control Tour 2000 Both were truly amazing nights. J5 were supported by MC Supernatural (world's best freestyler) who was just mind blowing, and the main act were sensational. And the Kweli gig will always be a fond memory. For one, the beatnutz were supporting which were brilliant, and if that wasn't enough, 10 minutes into his set, Mos Def barged through the crowd and leapt on stage. I swear, the place nearly blew apart from the excitement. An evening with Blackstar is a very, very, special occasion. Even more so when the Beatnutz come back on stage and they collaborate, freestyling, accapella, the whole sheet. Oh, and Estelle dropped a couple of verses as well. The Kweli gig will probably edge it just for being in the Jazz Cafe. That place is just the best venue.
so true, jealousy is now setting in think my fave gi was dj shadow & cut chemist in glasgow in 2001.... 2nd probably goes to Lee Scratch Perry just for the general atmosphere and his rendition of "this old man"
Hiding With Girls / Alexisonfire / The Bled - pretty good. Best gig due to showmanship was... Usurper / Christian Death / Cradle of Filth
He said something like 'in the season of goodwill lets hope michael stipe goes the same way as freddie mercury' - at the time when rumours of stipe having HIV was rife, personally I think its kind of amusing. He also said some1 should 'build a bypass over this ****hole' when playing glastonbury. He's got a big gob, get over it.
Definitely have to go with Nine Inch Nails back in 2001, after they came back for a second american tour. I couldn't go to the first one because I was 10. But I went to their show in Minneaplois when I was 12. With a close second going to the Silent Drive/Bane/Comeback Kid/With Honor show that I saw recently at the Triple Rock Social Club. That was pretty kickass, considering the venue was smaller than my basement.
Well then you are as bad as he is, if not worse. Would it be ok for me to wish a horrible death from AIDS on someone on bT as long as I said in in a jovial manner? No, I didn't think so. Oh, I'm sorry. He wishes AIDS on someone, and it's *me* that has the problem? Grow up. Sam
