I don't think there was anything clichéd about Seven Pounds... it was a truly emotional film, and yes, it did actually make me cry. Will Smith is an amazing actor, being able to portray his character so well made him the star of that show, and helped make him one of my all time favourite actors.

I didn't say Seven Pounds was clichéd, I said it was patronising and cheap. Rather than strive to be a great film in its own right, it settled on being just an emotional film (and also very predictable).

You had this oh-so-perfectly flawed character, stumbling from one precious moment to another, only to have it end with a fantastically heroic gesture.

I just can't relate to any film full of fantasy characters that exists for no other reason than to pull on your heartstrings.

    Most of this ^^

I've never cried at a film, thought films were sad but never actually cried.
I always thought girls cry at films and guys just watch them.
That and having a heart of stone makes getting through life a damn site easier.

Having a "heart of stone" (i.e. no feelings) all the time does not make getting through life easier... I've tried it and it doesn't work. And it's "damn sight" for future reference.

Say what you want about Seven Pounds, it's still one of my favourite films of all time. I feel completely different about it than you do.

    Oi, watch it :nono: :p

Anyway, I'm amazed Silent Running hasn't been mentioned yet, especially considering it was #1 in the Top 100 tearjerkers. I own it, but can't watch it because I know I'll end up an absolute wreck. Edgar Wright tells it like it is. I'm the same age as him which is probably why I saw it on TV so many times too.

Also, Brave Little Toaster. I can watch people dying and it does nothing, meh, whatever. But another appliance being mean to a toaster and I'm blubbing.

[edit]Oh no, I was just reminded of when the flower sees its reflection in the chrome and thinks it has finally found a companion, then realises it hasn't and withers :waah:[/edit]

Not a recent film but apparently one of the all time tear jerkering scenes comes at the end of "The Snowgoose" which starred Richard Harris and a young Jenny Agutter - see IMDB. My wife always weeps at the point in "The RailwayChildren" when coincidently Jenny Agutter utters the line "Daddy, my Daddy".
"Silent Running" is a sad techy film.

I have always had a soft spot for It's a Wonderful Life, with James Stewart. It may be a golden oldie, it's never reduced me to tears but it's a great film with a great sentiment behind it. The one film I remember being brought to tears with was Schindlers List, and I actually felt uncomfortable whilst watching it. There have been loads of films that have put a lump in my throat though. The Green Mile, City of Angels, E.T., Of Mice and Men are a few that spring to mind. There's nothing wrong with being moved by an emotional topic in a film, I think the macho crap stuff behind most male film watchers is a crock to be honest :D

Bunch of gays. Only films that make me cry are comedies.... not the only fluids expelled aswell.

Though thats probably just because I dont watch the kind of films that try to invoke those kind of emotions.

    Oh yeah. That too.
Mostly it's just well up a little.
Agreed. I didn't think there was anything special about that movie.

Sometimes I get teary-eyed when I watch Casablanca.

And, some old friends from way back got married at 19.

Years ago i used to cry to/at Lion King, but not seen it in possibly 10 years, poss more than that.
With more recent films, i've not cried or shed a tear, unless it was to a comedy, in which case, it possibly doesn't count.

    I don't cry at films.

The only time I've bawled like a kid was when I held my dad's cold dead hand.

    I believe that's acceptable.

I'll get a little watery on some movies, nothing that will pull out a real tear usually except for when a small local theater ended up playing The Road. I'd read the book and enjoyed it, and got a little watery in some chapters, but wow. The movie. When the man was on the bridge with the boy and he takes off his wedding ring and starts remembering his wife, then snaps out of it and slides the ring off the bridge! :waah:

I had to excuse myself from the room and get composed before I really started bawling.
