I'm wanting to do engineering stuff and enhance my understanding of design for 3D print to improve my work skills, so I'm looking somewhere between a X1C and Form4XL, the big problem with the latter is the soace requirements! But alumina prints...
Hot off the press news: Centauri Carbon is currently £299, pre-release pricing. I was not expecting such a low price. Looks like it's going to ship sometime between March and May. According to the page, it looks like an AMS for it in incoming as well, scheduled release of Q3 2025. I might have to buy one at that price
I got one of the first batch! It'll "Ship before March 24th", according to the checkout page. The launch livestream had a £10 off code (which I managed to use), so that covers half the £20 shipping fee. BTW - If you don't need to print "advanced" materials like carbon fibre, the UK site lists a non-"carbon" version for only £199
I'll be super interested in the quality this does. It won't be great, but for that low, as long as it prints reliably, I think you're massively winning! That would be my biggest fear, as Elegoo doesn't have a lot of history with filament printers!
thats a damn good price, and Elegoo are USUALLY very good with customer support, ive had 2 issues with my mars 3 and BOTH times Elegoo stepped up to the plate ( the first was a pre-production issue, and the second was me BETA testing Chitubox ) if i was in the market for a new FDM machine i would be considering it
That is a fantastic price, but it’s a long time to wait. Unless you got in early on the pre-orders, like @IanW did, you’re gonna be waiting a while. At the moment it’s showing “June 10th”, and the AMS-a-like isn’t going to launch until “Q3”. It’s probably going to come down to exactly how much my bonus will come out to. If I can stretch my budget enough then - as much as the Bambu firmware B-S does bother me - I’ll probably get a P1P with AMS (and a hardened steel nozzle for CF/GF). That’s an amazing price for the Centauri Carbon, and based on the previews/reviews I’ve seen so far, the print quality does look very good. But I’m not sure I want to wait four months.
Decided I didn't want to wait four months for delivery, so I had pretty much decided to get a Bambu P1S. Now I'm not so sure, because I'm getting buyer's remorse before I've even pulled the trigger on nearly £800!
I know right, its a lot of pennies! TBH I'd probably go the whole hog to an X1C combo, its its not *that* much more!
Base price of £699 for P1S+AMS, £1219 for X1C+AMS… Chuck in a few rolls of filament to get started… Nah, I’m not sure I can stomach spending more than £1000 . Just under £800 is bad enough!
Or £1200-ish for a Creality K2 Plus combo - Everything the X1C+AMS does, but with a 350x350x350 build volume. And the rainforest can get you one for tomorrow!
Stop trying to make me spend a grand plus on a 3D printer. My OH’s reaction to “about £800-£900” was bad enough!
*cough * https://uk.anycubic.com/products/kobra-s1-combo *cough * Anycubic have a sale on, that looks like a fantastic price!
Agreed, because that does indeed look like a spiffing price! Although the name is not news to me: I saw reports from a lot of rather miffed Anycubic FDM printer owners when looking into this… Apparently they’ve got a bit of a habit of fixing design flaws by releasing new models and not offering anything to existing owners. But Creality have done similar in the past, so this isn’t exactly unique to Anycubic in the “cheap 3D printer” race.
Imagine how happy she will be when you print up some new brake calipers for her car at a fraction of market price!
Once the time arrived when the money for a new 3D printer was "resting" in my account, I found it extremely hard to justify parting with ~£800... So I spent ~£500 when the Qidi Q1 Pro made a surprise sprint up the inside lane this morning. Watched/read a few reviews and it seems to offer very similar performance to the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. It's £80 more than the Elegoo, but I don't have to wait until July. Plus, unlike the Elegoo or even the P1S I was considering, it also has active chamber heating up to 60C. Just... don't go gerfingerpoken the heating element when it's on, because apparently you'll get a nice little zap of mains voltage . From what I've read though, you'd have to go out of your way to shove your fingers in the heating element while the printer is running - its at the bottom rear of the build chamber. Not impossible, but not likely during normal use... Also, my previous 3D printer used one of those PSU's where the bare mains terminals are exposed, so.... lucky I don't have kids....
Where there's a fork, there's a way. -My childhood motto. ...and, yeah, I'm lurking because I'll probably need one of these someday soon. My daily driver reached "antique" status, and I've already modified more common pickup parts to replace unobtainium van parts. Something that prints nylon would be Earth-shifting.
As well as a sufficiently high bed & hotend, I'm led to believe that a heated build chamber is key. Supposedly, this Qidi printer I just bought can do nylon.
