I'll be making stuff like a 30 year old hood prop catch. It doesn't need to be pretty, just survive next to an engine radiator.
ABS will be a lot of what I do as well, and I KNOW that stuff stinks.
-Of course... I might want to draw up some absolutely apesh*t computer designs as well.

Honestly, I'd prototype it in PLA then make a final part from a production service. I've used Protolabs and Solidprint3D, but were really cheap and produced way higher quality parts than I could print with the Ultimaker S5 I have at work. That'd be my recommendation for parts like this :)

Not used CF, but they can vapour smooth nylon, which will have a similar effect :)

Another dispatch notification from Elegoo. *Gasp*

This time it's just the extra accessory pack.

    Boooo!

I know it said August and I'm just being irrational, but @IanW planted a seed that it might be delivered early, so it's his fault really.

:worried: Pulled the trigger. Now we wait. -Not like I'm in a position to play with it anyway. I'm up to my 3rd raccoon corpse this month.

I ordered the printer during the launch stream on February 17th. It arrived March 28th.
I ordered the accessories & some filament only 2 days after the printer (Feb 19th). The accessories arrived last week & the filament this Tuesday.

The mom abandoned them when we put on the new roof. I'm replacing the soffit and facia. Tenants were trash and I could write a book here on what I'm cleaning up, but I shouldn't.

You have my sympathy Cheaps. I do what you do but on commercial property.
    Small workshops and offices mainly.

Just evicted a non paying tenant and going through the piles of rubbish, furniture and stuff they left behind after supposedly clearing out.
Thankfully the 2 trucks outside have been removed, which would've been a problem to dispose of.

That’s not a terribly complex model, it won’t be a challenge for a modern 3D printer and certainly not something to trouble a commercial service.

You’d definitely want it done in PETG, there’s every chance that it’ll be exposed to temperatures that could soften PLA (roughly around 50C-60C, but it depends on the manufacturer, some can even weaken at temperatures as low as 40C).

I’d offer to print it myself for you… but I don’t have any white PETG, and I’m not sure how much is left on the reel of black PETG filament I have. My printer’s been idle during the heatwave, and there’s a case panel for one of my own projects waiting to be printed.

If I get time tomorrow I’ll check out my filament supply situation, but in the meantime JLC 3DP is one that I see talked about a lot. But that certainly won’t get here by the weekend, ‘cos they’re in China.

Shoot a message to the team at Solidprint3D, they do small batch printing on their demo systems. They have a Formlabs Fuse they'd easily do it in Nylon, and they offer vapour smoothing, they also have other machines too. Been fairly cheap for parts I've had run, but they were totally different dimensions, so it's hard to estimate pricing.

I bought a few used GPU mining frames dirt cheap to harvest the 2020 Alu extrusion to make stuff. In this case, the stuff is a simple workstation frame for my new printer, when it arrives.

I wanted the 2020 extrusion because you can rig up hangers and storage bins straight off the framework. I also have a 7' x 3.5' x 1" pine table top that I saved from the scrap bin at work, so it'll have a fairly sturdy worktop and shelving. I had a handful of brass M6 threaded inserts too, so fitting the wooden parts should be a reasonably neat affair.

I have a question though... should I put heavy duty casters on the frame, or will that introduce additional unwanted vibration?

You probably want it as stable as possible. IIRC the Carbon uses a Klipper variant so you’ll have input shaping to compensate for resonance/oscillation, but I still wouldn’t fancy using even lockable castors. That print head whips around something fierce at times, I’m not sure I’d trust castor brakes/locks to stand up to it!

I do use some TPU feet on my printer to reduce the transmission of vibrations through the floor/ceiling, but TPU is not a super squishy material so it doesn’t introduce much additional movement. Input shaping seems to cope with it just fine.

After giving the idea a good dose of thinking at, I reckon I might get a set and try it out. There are some casters that retract inside the feet rather than just lock, which might be a better idea, as it's unlikely I'll be shifting this around on a daily basis; but the ability to do so could be a handy feature.
