Jeez this 3d printing lark can drive a man nuts. Just spent a couple of hours getting all my settings right for a 30 min print......

    I will survive

I got sucked into the Myminifactory sale... The CC is very good at printing models with the 0.2mm nozzle and a 0.8mm layer height!

Looks fantastic! What kind of printing is that? Also, if people want CAD work in the future let me know, I'm more than happy to help :)

It's printed in ASA then we wrapped the backplate. We're planning on making a V2 with a custom backplate and longer to remove the weird lip from the last fan. I'll contact you about CAD at some point.

 Apparently a Dell can't parse a 1.6 gigabyte .DXF.
-Speaking of wrapping, It occurred to me a while ago that you can make a seam in the print that fabric can be tucked into, and wrap a case in something like velvet. -Or even frames/clips to clamp the edges. I should try that before attempting the torture geometry.

So… as expected, Qidi released the “Qidi Box”, their answer to a multi-material system. Officially it’s only compatible with their most recent printer, the Plus4. No word on upgrades for compatibility with the Q1 Pro… because the Q2 has just been announced: https://uk.qidi3d.com/products/qidi-q2.

‘Twas ever thus with cheap manufacturers: get it on the market ASAP, drop it like a sack of hot ****, move on to the next product.

But. I did somewhat expect this, and the “Box” is not the only multi-filament unit that could be used.

That's a bit sh!tty - I got the impression they were a little more customer focussed than that.

With a price tag of £199 plus shipping... I'm not going to lose any sleep. Multi-material printing would be nice, but it’s not worth ~50% of the printer’s original price.

so my makita and festool boxes needed inserts and my 13 yr old seemed oddly good at making very accurate inserts. turns out he had been using https://www.tooltrace.ai/ to spam them out to the 3d printer

    Boooo!

Worst print yet - look at those walls!!. I've been spoilt by the dimensional accuracy of PLA-CF and I switched back to regular old PLA and attempted to push it through on high speed. The rest of it looks ok, so far, and these are Gridfinity prints so the walls won't be seen. Still breaks my heart a little though.

I shall resolve to be more considerate with lesser materials.

Are the materials from the same brands?

No, it was an old spool of PLA, but I had already printed with and got good results - I just don't think it likes Turbo mode.

The finished prints actually look reasonably decent now they're complete, just not to the same standard as PLA-CF.

Could be the CF changing the thermal properties, so handles the looser specs for the internal supports better :)

I honestly just think the generic PLA needed dialling in a little more to cope with the faster speeds of turbo mode. Like I said, the prints are passable and it did knock a 8.5 hour print time down to 7 hours.
