Bought another of those cheap wheeled shelves, stole one to make the filament storage into a five-shelf unit and built the other into a widely-spaced three-shelf unit for... I dunno. But, and I don't know who needs to hear this right now... The shelves are pretty much exactly one Commodore 64C wide. Use this information wisely.
A long time ago, I started building a “Tantillus” 3D printer, this tiny little thing from the RepRap project Besides being tiny and cute, there are practical applications for a small-footprint, small-volume printer. I kinda abandoned that project not long after it got started; my printer at the time was a nightmare, and it was around the time my father was dying, so I had rather a lot going on. The idea of building a compact 3D printer never really went away. Recently this video started appearing in my feed: I see a lot of “3D printing” stuff come up on YouTube, and it’s often from channels I’ve never heard of and have no interest in. I saw that thumbnail and immediately thought “big deal, the only reason anyone can buy an enshittified Bambu Lab printer is because of all the work put in by the RepRap project in designing low-cost machines that can make most of the parts needed to make more low-cost machines, welcome to 20 bloody years ago, pal”. But then I saw a Hackster article on the same printer - sadly not one from @Gareth Halfacree. The first link is to the GitHub repo, and it’s a GPLv3 licence. Curiosity now piqued sufficiently to justify actually watching the video. Curiosity rises further upon learning that the frame is fully 3D printed, in a single piece. I’ve toyed with the idea of building a Voron 0, but the BOM is surprisingly expensive. I very much admire the RepRap ethos of “a 3D printer that can print itself”. That was part of the attraction of the Tantillus all those years ago. It’s a very tempting project to take on. My concern is the firmware and firmware tuning. This is the kind of thing the world needs to know.
@Gareth Halfacree - Is that an Imperial or Metric Commodore 64? Also, I fear you have become a shelf hoarder. As someone that discovered 50% of his wasted garage space was storage bins, I know. Get help.
Before I attempt to 3D-print a C64... First try with Sunlu PLA+ Silk Gold. Really quite pleased with how that's come out, though it needs to be bloody hot: the nozzle heats up to 220°C during loading and the stuff was coming out the end pretty much the same diameter as it went in(!). Upped to 235°C, which is the maximum according to the label on the spool, and it was fine - no stringing at all. Tempted to throw the 0.25mm nozzle in there, see how it fares with fine detail...

Haha, I see what you did there! This is an exciting development for the printing system. Which eye wateringly expensive CF infused material did you mention last week? I am thinking about getting the frame for NFC Systems 4TF case made up, as it takes a RTX 40/5060 LP in the mk3 version
PPS-CF ~ £70 for a half kg reel. Did you see NFC's upload about no longer shipping to the EU? I assume it's purely based on an EU-centric change of regs and doesn't apply to the UK.
PPS, that's a new one to me, looks super strong and heat resistant Yes,I watched Josh's video and it's just as you thought, too much EU bureaucracy for a micro business. He specifically said that it didn't include the UK, probably the first positive outcome of Brexit that I can recall Now to find the login for Patreon...
Oh, I missed the bit where he mentioned the UK. All good then. The EU are taking the pain, now that we're not there to wave our massive vito around and spoil the bureau-broth.
Anyone know what could be causing this? This is the bottom layer (first layer) … if it was first layer issues I’d have thought it would be more random. But it’s like it’s per model. Each one has the issues in the same sort of place. the model on slicer looks fine for all of them. Tried a few diff settings like layer height etc but just seems to be same strange issue :/ unless there is something specific I’m missing. And it hasn’t done it on this model before
It was newly cleaned... but if it was i'd have thought it would be more random - not in the same places on each individual object. And the plate LOOKS ok
