Off topic but I feel like anytime I get an article from hackster it's from G and it's always high quality. On topic, I'm really tempted by a Bambu X2D at the moment. it seems like such a nice printer for the price. Only issue is Bambu and really I'd like a printer that has a 360mm x 360mm bed so I can work on stuff the work Core One can't do.
@pete* -I'm half asleep... so you mean it's separating in the same area of the plate each time? If so, I'd try a new plate. If that doesn't get it, the bed heater may be going bad. -Course, I'm a noob at this stuff.
No, on the object itself. I can move those objects around the plate, and it'll be irregular in roughly the same spot no matter where they are. I've tried first layer calibration and I think my plate is a bit uneven. But even with that, it doesn't make sense on EACH object it is odd in the same spot. I'd expect it same spot on the plate itself. I do have a BLTouch I need to plug in but got tired of trying to work out where it should plug in and everything saying DONT DO IT WRONG YOU BLOW THE MOTHERBOARD. So i'm going to try and get a BTT one with a specific BLTouch port. Eventually when I have that sort of money spare.
just discovered the Sovol SV08 Max. Build Volume: 500×500×500 mm. This would let me build some of the PC case stuff I have in mind without splitting it up. Especially remaking my GPU shroud. Heck you could fit a whole PC case or two in there.
Nice and large. Love that. Thought my 300x300 was good size, just can't use it all as most LARGE things i've tried start coming away from the plate. Need an enclosure to help. Glue/brims don't work as I think plate might be uneven.

Pretty sure the Giga was the printer mentioned by a guy who was either printing or planning to print his own kitchen cabinets.
Trying out some spool retraction mods for the PolyDryer boxes: Not sure if they have the nads to retract a 1kg spool... we shall see
That looks like the same mechanism I use in the “cereal box” dryboxes. It should do the job just fine if you’ve printed it in PETG; the bearings are doing most of the work, the PETG “spring” is just there to provide a little bit of retraction force. The mechanism is designed to slip when it winds too tightly, so don’t be alarmed if you’re hearing a “clunk” when printing . Though one thing I will say is that if the design has a TPU “sleeve” for the spool, then you only really want to use that on plastic spools (like Creality PETG). I had no end of problems using the TPU sleeve on cardboard spools, even when I removed the retraction spring from the centre.
I've heard those things are super super slow to print. atm I'm considering that Sovol SV08 Max or selling my soul and getting an X2D. The current problem is I can't use CAD to save my life so it's pointless me owning a printer as is.
Looks like only compared to the more "modern" speeds it is slow. It's still double the speed of mine. Which is around 80/90mm/s, but I run around 30-50mm/s. I also am looking to sell my soul, but for an X2C.. I want multi-colour printing. And that one is looking like what I want (currently) - will be a while before I get one so may be others released in the meantime. Don't need CAD for a printer! Theres loads of printable willy models on printables,cult, etc
From the reviews I saw a last year or before were that it was basically unusable! Most reviewers gave up trying to use it as it just didn't work. Not sure if its been fixed.
My keyboard is always out of reach when i'm in the sim racing seat (Logitech K400 & NLR F-GT Lite). Had a look for a 3D printed solution and although one was close (it's actually for a different seat) it didn't quite work well enough. I decided to drop the 3MF into 3D Builder and have a play to try to make something suitable. I have no experience in 3D modelling though so it's a bit ugly and very basic. But it works! Ok, so when @Arboreal visited the island last week, he brought me a gift. A Gen 8 Microserver with a dicky mainboard. Now I love the Gen8 and I think it looks cool AF but I hate using them, because they are so locked down from a tinkerer's standpoint and I love to tinker. So, a Gen8 with a dead board presents a superb opportunity to have the Microserver I've always wanted: I have one of these just lying around: A Topton MW-N100-NAS board with six SATA ports and a pair of m.2 slots, also sporting one 10GbE and two 2.5GbE ports. Of course, the Gen8 uses a proprietary mainboard and any board in the ITX format just doesn't fit. So I was about to take the Dremel to the motherboard tray when I remembered that I have a printer and, sure enough, someone designed an ITX tray for the Gen8 based on a different board. A little firking around and I have a suitable prototype: I't just PLA for the moment to ensure everything fits and I'll run it up in ASA when I've finalised it, but it looks pretty sweet already: Now I get to try and rewire HP's god-awful front IO. Yay.
Thankfully, the PSU is a Flex form factor so I just swapped it out for a unit I had on hand that suits my board and extra drive requirements. The fan had a six pin connector so I just switched it with a Noctua. No further progress yet - it's far too hot in my office to be running multi-hour prints. Especially something that needs a high temp bed like ASA. I opted to spend the evening on the front deck with a glass of Dimple (or three).
