    My bad... FREE maya!

My bad, so sorry! been a while! Been in hosp...
Amaya is the rendering agent for Mozilla!

OK, http://sourceforge.net offers many items including FREEMAYA:
in a search at http://sourceforge.net , I used the term 'maya' but, when I tried to bring the list here, the format was lost...

Please go to http://sourceforge.net, and search 'maya'
in the bottom third of the page you should see FreeMaya.

OK, I don't know that this has completely been explained in detail, and I don't know what he's running for software, but at school it runs like this (BTW We use the network render included in 3dsmax and windows xp on p3s :p ) One controlling pc connects to the others on the local network (computers can be left out) via the networking software. Once it knows that the majority are ready, it divides up the task (ie Comp 1 gets frames 1,3,5,6 etc while comp gets 2,4,6,8) and then sets them to work. Once a frame is complete on a slave pc, its sent back to the master and placed into the final render file. The nice thing about some of the network render systems is that more can be added on the fly so that once someone would log off at school we'd jump on and add it to the render farm :D .

From what I understand the comps all reference the textures and what not from the master pc, but that may have changed, im not entirely sure, haven't done it in awhile. Other programs like Adobe's Premiere Pro and After Effects support this as well. If you were to build one for yourself, you could offset the cost by renting out time to other students, teachers, businesses etc.

imagine a commodore 64 that runs faster than most computers...

goes to froogle.com and checks C64 prices...

since you can hook that many mobos together to make overall processing speed greater, can he do that with his vid card(s) too? can he do that to anything else?

gigabit LAN, :hehe: he's got terrabit LAN

it's called SMP (i think) it's basically hyperthreading on a P4 processor, it breaks up the information going to the processor, so each processor only has to do 1/X (X = number of processors) of the work, in this case each CPU has to do 1/5 of the work.

it's a computer version of "two heads are better than one"

    But is SMP a program?
How does he manage to do that?
It's only possible with linux, not in windows right?

It stands for Symetic Multiple Processors its Mariage of Chipset, Processor, and software. WindowsXP Pro runs up to 2 processors but Hyperthreaded takes up the processors allowance :duh: Most GNU/Linux can do it out of the box with correct kernels. BSD like FreeBSD, OpenBSD have problems with SMP but that getting fixed with a later Kernel patch (Dont get your hopes up it still just passed the vapiourware stage)

Can you use this type of computer to play games really fast and burn DVDs quickly or is just for information type of programs? DO you power all of these computers on at once?
