Alright, i would like to thank the guys who helped me on the engraving part, but now i think i have a mod that will rivel some from the past k since im putting a 5" LCD into my project, i dont want to always have to keep turning it on and off from a switch, i would like to keep the switch on but at the same time keep the LCD off... so here's my question: Is it possible to use a motion sensor from a home improvement store and hook it up to the power switch, so that i can have that LCD on but when i leave it will shut off on its own, and when i arrive back to the scene turn back on. ive looked at a DIY site on the topic of installing a Motion sensor, and well from what ive seen they just hook it up to the power source and put it back on the wall. k well since i know little about wiring things, i was also wondering if i could wire it so that i can turn then sensor on and off, but let the sensor control the LCD... if that makes sense. here is one im thinking about investing in, nothing special: http://www.smarthome.com/7481A.html sorry for the cheesy picture, i was thinking about hitting up my local hardware store, and maybe commercial hardware stores when i go home next weekend if you could sort of give me some direction and maybe a better motion sensor, preferably one i can get in the US. thanx, Lunn1
The problem with that is that it would keep on flicking the switch whenever you move so the screen would turn on/off/on/off/on/off etc... Most switches on PCs are momentary, they only briefly make a contact. I used a small IR beam kit and wired that up to my PC so that whenever I left my room I put my hand into a hole and turned my computer off.
actually ill be using a PIR for the job, and it sense's heat not really motion, but i found it under motion, and it uses specific heat tempture to turn it on, but it also sense's weight, so anything under 40 lbs wont turn it on. but once again the onlyproblem with that would be taht my heater is in the ceiling, and blows, unfortunetly, on my computer, i know i know that bad but i live in the dorm and well its one of the draw backs next to having a idiot for a roommate.
