OK, by the end of May I should be out of my temp living at the parents and back into my own place again. (left uni, found work, 6 months have passed time to move on)

    So,

Time to rebuild the server, but I want to create certain features that make life seamless and smooth.

I am going to set-up a samba share again, to store documents/music/photos but i want all files to actually be stored locally but sync'd across the network on all machines. To allow this to happen i shall create a data cap of 160GB.

So the server will be RAID 5, but the networked machines would also be a mirror of the files, so no matter what gets dicked, there is always a backup somewhere.

Also if i can create such a system of mirror sync'ing my data, how could i integrate the sync'ing of my external portable HDD automatically, sort of a plug and play ability.

    HTPC running W7 Ulimate
    Main Comp running W7 Ultimate
    Laptop running Natty 11.04
Server will be the lastest LTS buntu

So any idea's, also welcome to new and interesting ideas as to what this network could offer.

EDIT: Could rsync offer what i require?
