I've finally got enough second hand bits to almost start a PC capable of playing games. Just need a PSU, cooler and screen. Anything would do really after not being able to play games for a few years lol
The generosity here is just amazing. Such a community! Aside from wanting to spec out a new pc, the only thing hindering me at the moment is OS - I need a Win8 upgrade, but I live in the developed world and am gratefully employed, so I should really go out and buy it!
Posted today Recorded first class should see it (on a good day) monday latest tuesday, luckily GF works for RM No worries .
Gonna send that 480 to Andy as he reaaaally wants it. Still haven't had time to shoot a pic of the VIA board - haven't forgotten!
Seriously dude, every time I think about it I get tingles and well up. At the time the Lightning released I was at a very low point in my life. My friend and I (he's addicted to technology too) used to sit and drool over the 480 Lightning. IMO it was MSI's finest hour, because they took a complete and utter failure and turned it on its head. The 480 Lightning is just a marvel of technology, so even now that it's older it's probably the computer part I wanted more than any other. I also loved how they made the Twin Frozr on it completely exclusive. I messaged my friend this morning and he couldn't believe it OK. So has any one ever seen Pay it forward? well that's this thread. If you haven't seen it watch it, it's a truly lovely film to watch. I'm currently working on setting Craig up with a monitor
While I probably need to upgrade my CPU/RAM/Mobo the most a one-off upgrade that would make the most difference would be an SSD.
Well I missed out on the 480 but if anyone has something along the lines of a 260 they could let go I'd be interested. As mentioned it's not for me it's for my daughters friend. We already have 2 560ti's, I have a 670 and my wife's pc is more than happy running on a 6450 as she doesn't game.
SSD landed this morning. Cloned my wife's OS onto it, had to do a repair as it wouldn't boot due to the way I had to clone the drive (by partition rather than disk) and did the reg hack for AHCI and it's all up and running and way snappier than her clunky old HDD. Many thanks Morgan, really really appreciated.
I'd love to get a hold of a new GPU, my 550s are quite nicely exploding, i've had to slowly keep reducing clocks to keep the cards running without errors. My current luck in finding a job has screwed me for monies to replace it myself, sadly.
The Bit-tech component wish list thread Sorry I completely missed your post! I just saw your PM and will reply in a minute. Thanks!
A decent DAC is on my wishlist. My onboard sound is driving me nuts, has been for ages. Can anyone recommend me a decent, reasonably priced one? I don't need all the bells and whistles.
it would have to be a new 360mm radiator as i managed to puncture mine with a screw. I think I got over excited when I fitted it.
