A driver can't race in qualifying due to injury etc so the reserve driver steps in.

Why can't said driver step in, albeit at the back of the grid.

Would make the grid far more interesting than having cars missing.

Aside from the black and white rule:

A reserve driver can step in before qualifying, but before starting the race any driver has to qualify or show a representative pace during the weekend within 107% of the pole time.

After qualifying it is impossible to achieve this, so they can't replace the driver after this and do what is required to start the race, even from the back of the grid/pitlane.

Sure you could argue on a case by case basis that a driver clearly would be fast enough, but you can't really have fuzzy rules like that in a sport.

Perhaps you could have an exception for a reserve driver who has shown sufficient pace at a different track or test, or allow a late replacement 15mins of track time (alone) to show if that they are not too slow

He also puts tampons in his ears so he can't hear Lewis overtaking him :).

If I could somehow cram my frame into an F1 car, I think only a Pampers Ultra Dry would be suitable for mopping up the torrents of sweat it would generate.

Of course the only method for extracting me from the swollen nappy/helmet mix would probably be the jaws of life...

He's always struck me as one of the most down to earth drivers in the paddock. He doesn't have the same air of self-importance about him that some of the other drivers have.

Really excited to see the race tomorrow, I've missed most of the winter testing as well as the first race, so I have some catching up to do and will enjoy the rare opportunity of seeing it live tomorrow.

At the podium ceremony do they play the drivers national anthem first? If so, everytime I hear the
    German
(spoiler tags to hide the winner) anthem I hear the song "One little speckled frog".

Driver, then team [or just the one if they're both from the same country]

Why pit on lap 4 under the safety car, utterly pointless.

Because Merc can't keep the tyres alive like Vettel?

But to pit after only 4 laps, just because there was a safety car, was silly - a waste of a set of tyres and an additional pit stop.

Was a bad stratagy call thats for sure, Guess they expected ferrari to follow them into the pits. If they had stayed out they could of ran mediums for final stint and it would of been closer. Still not sure they would of picked up a win.

People were saying it was a great race but thats only cause somebody else won, It was still pretty poor in racing terms and none of the leading 3 where ever really contesting each others positions once Vettel had passed nico. The rest was just about stratagy which merc got wrong.

It does do one thing and that will be to shut up Whiny Horner.

Nico seems half the driver that he was pre coaching as well.
