Adrian Newey: Beeb link ...or... Rivals don't want to offer you premium engines because you've behaved like a bunch of tw@ts. Spin it any way you like, fella - whatever keeps you warm at night.
Put it this way. I know two people working there who have been looking for new jobs for a little while due to "job security" issues. Ones had an offer from another team the others still weighing up offers. F1 cannot afford in terms of revenue alone to loose two teams RBR's most realistic powertrain option for next season is Renault, an then keep quiet about power deficits while looking to other suppliers. Unfortunately the management at RBR have been to quick to blame the powertrain which while justified is not the right way to do things.
Perhaps not, but for them to go around claiming this a problem of anyone's making but their own is Olympic class bullsh!t.
It's not 2 teams though, it's [potentially] 2 teams and a circuit [Austria's Red Bull Ring]. If the teams go, I can see the circuit going with them.
Very true, its the old adage you reap what you sow. Side not, as F! will be in Merica in a couple of weeks, podium, do you reckon we will see Stetsons and Obama? Bit of keeping up with the Jones's.
Putin started it. Now pilots will start getting Pirelli sombreros in Mexico, Pirelli cowboy hats in USA, Pirelli hachimakis in Japan...
Well, the cowboy hats in the USA happened a while ago already: So technically: Obama started THAT... Thanks, Obama
Yeah, they started that crap with the first Austin GP, although I'll wager there are more baseball caps than cowboy hats, even in Texas. At the risk of raising a racial stereotype, in that photo he reminds me of Bart - the sheriff in Blazing Saddles.
I'll be shocked if Redbull walk away. Renault contract is still valid and neither Renault or RBR can afford to just walk away. The rumours are Redbull racing would have a 750 million euro fine just for Red bull not including TR. However rich the owner is its a huge chunk of cash to stomach. Renault would then be fined for breach of contract. Personally think TR will get a 2015 Ferrari engine whatever happens. With Redbull stuck with Renault for the year till they get the Ferrari engine in 2017 season. Or they go with the Honda engine which is the rumour at the moment.
In complete seriousness, F1 can afford to lose all three. RBR is unlikely to leave F1. Even if Red Bull goes nuclear and dumps it involvement entirely RBR would still have a budget equal to Williams just on the strength of it's prize money. Love him or hate him Horner is perfectly capable of running that team on a smaller scale if Marko and Dietrich bug out. It would become a much smaller team, but Williams can do it and Horner could probably get a good chunk of that $500m out of Red Bull. With Red Bull no longer directly involved I bet Horner would be much less aggressive in his dealing and engine would be more forthcoming. It would be pretty terrible for STR though. RB have been extremely destructive behind the scenes of F1, together with Renault they were the primary force in getting the turbos installed, they nixed a number of attempts to limit spending and even the prize money behind the scenes (even more so than Ferrari) and they manipulated the old engine rules to essentially have free development on the Renault V8. F1 wouldn't die without them, although the short term situation would get pretty bad.
I really hope they do this and it turns out to be rapid and Merc start getting worried about next year. Would be a bold move. I think either way the development time should put them in a better position next year.
Plus Kimi won't suffer as much as Vettel [who still has a slim mathematical chance at the title] from the resulting grid drop...
I hope it appears to be a dog, Merc breath easy but Ferrari take the precious data and build a monster engine for 2016 that evens the playing field. Merc will have something up their sleeve if they think Ferrari are too close.
He will be out of title race by end of next race as will everyone else. Whatever happens is delaying the certainty Hamilton needs 11 points for title from 4 races in a car that's the fastest on the grid and the most reliable. Do not think Merc have cared much all season about others. They hold a minimum of a 0.8 second quali lead and a 1 second a lap race pace lead. It's not even the engine that gives them the gains it's the Aero and chassis as Martin brundle said. Ferrari engine is basically around the same performance wise as the Merc engine in quali. Race is a bit dif as Merc can run the engine at a higher output is rumours. Ferrari need Merc to make a mistake with there next car to close that gap. Think 2017 will be the year things change. I hope they get some real tyres instead of the crap they currently have.
I don't hold much hope for the rule changes. The Merc team leaped to the front in 2009 as Brawn and they did it again in 2014 as Merc. Ross Brawn isn't their anymore but his tendency to plan far, far ahead is surely his legacy.
This is all we can hope for they have used all the engine tokens so thats a 48% change to the engine with several components being moved to provide a narrower package which in turn should allow the aero monkies to slim down the back end for better airflow. If you look at the back half of the cars the Honda is super super skinny which proved to much as it was at the detriment of the engine layout and design. Merc seem to have found a sweet spot while Renualt's is a little wider due to the MGUK placement and Ferrari having a wider one as they elected to put the MGUK below and to the left of the combustion unit. From what I gather the MGUK is moving up front in line with other Manufacturers and the oil tank moving from the rear to the front of the engine to help with packaging. This could all make little odds anyway if they all agree to allow engine testing/development through the season something which Merc apparently are quite happy to allow. Personally I can see the others following suit especially Honda an Renault who are effectively 2nd and 3rd class engines at present.
Allowing Merc free development can not end well. People say it lets others catch up will other side of that coin is it lets Merc go further ahead.
