Tokens are still limited to 32, but the "lockdown" on what parts may and may not be upgraded is lifted. Ferrari is likely to use their last tokens to go "2016 mode" in Kimi's car this weekend. One question I have: What happens if a team uses MORE than their allocated tokens? What's the penalty? DQ? Fine? 2015 engines are also back on the board, so that make it very likely that STR will stay.
I was also wondering what that penalty would be, I'm assuming it must be huge though. Mainly because if it wasn't that bad Honda probably would have changed everything!
Also, Ferrari WOULD, Mercedes would have the opportunity on one car from Texas on, both cars after that. The limit on the engine manufacturers, though - so probably monetary. Question to RBR and Renault (in that case): is it more than 500 million?
Magnussen to leave McLaren at the end of the season Not really a shock, tbh. Vandoorne is a better choice, in my opinion.
I'd imagine it's a lot or Honda / Renault would of took the penalty already. Could be a points penalty that would make it pointless to break the rule.
Neither he nor Vandoorne have any future at Mclaren. For the next two or three years all Mclaren can do to a young driver is kill their career. If one of them were to replace Button or Alonso then they'd get paired with Alonso or Button, aka two of the best drivers of the last fifteen years. I wouldn't expect Vandoorne to any better against either of them than Perez and K-Mag did against Button, there's just too big an experience gap. If the Button and Alonso left, then it's two young drivers battling a complete dog of a car. JB and FA get World Champion immunity, they're legends either way, Vandoorne and K-Mag will just get written off.
Agree cant see either getting a drive on the grid in truth. Vandoorne does not have huge sponsorship outside of his Mclaren deals. K-Mag does not either. Takes away all the paid drive options. Mercedes have brought out Manor effectively with there engine deal expect at least 1 young merc driver in that car. Theres just not alot of race seats. Hass said they had 15 applications from drivers past present and future for there 2 car seats. And thats just drivers that were already in a Formula motorsport or have been. Button will retire next year id imagine he has his final year at McLaren dout he will get another. If the car is not entirely awful by then maybe Vandoorne steps in and we get to see what hes made off. Hamilton matched / beat Alonso in the same machine in his first season. To say niether can compete with Alonso or Button is a bit nuts in truth as if they are good enough they will compete.
FP2 Cancelled due to the atrocious weather, FP3 probably will be too and Quali may get bumped to the Sunday... link In other news - Jolyon Palmer confirmed as Lotus' 2nd driver for 2016...
Haven't watched the race(waiting for BBC show) glad Lewis won, not his favourite supporter (wish he'd stop trying to speak with the local language its a bit try hard) but he's British and I like him in general, plus at least the finger has been denied. Hopefully next year the top 3 teams might be more even and the we will truely have an exciting spectator sport (fingers crossed).
IMO Rosberg cemented his place as the new Barrichello... Nice enough guy, decent driver, but he'll never win anything...
Was a awesome race. Nico is lucky to be in the car and that's a simple fact. No where near his team mate or Vettel / Alonso. Best gp in years makes you want more of these mixed weather races.
^^ LOL Battles all the way - gripping throughout. Sainz impressed me today, as did Verstappen (how long before he gets offered a better drive?). WTF has happened to Hulkenberg? He's tripping over someone every other race, while Perez is raking in the points. Perez has settled down to become a decent driver.
