Wonder what chances Nico and lewis is to colide at first corner and let vettel clean up. Its a long way to first corner could be a fun race. Nico needs to win to get that 2nd place secured. I have my douts that Lewis will help him achieve that in any wya shape or form.
Anyone else find the whole end of race and podium just awkward? Bottas didn't seem to congratulate or speak to Nico while getting ready, and Hamilton and Nico was just awkward. Then Mansell made things more awkward really.
It did not look like a happy podium. Nico had just beaten Lewis expected him to be super hyped with Vettel also failing to finish. They should of retired his car before he crashed it. He was struggling to stop the car at several points. Mercedes did a strange pit stop saying safety reasons. That was the wierdest pit stop I have saw most experts thought the medium would do 50 laps. Mercedes did less laps on that medium than they did on the softs.
I think the Merc stop was a "banker" so that there would be absolutely zero concerns if, for instance, there was a safety car. And boom, there was. A SC period would put the Mercs within striking distance of people on much more varied strategies - and therefore different compounds of different ages - so to put them on fresh rubber when they had more than enough time for a free stop was just good, cautious thinking. The risk of the Mercs getting mugged toward the end was quite slim regardless, but I don't think I can fault them for wanting to push even that tiny risk closer to zero.
Just reading GP+ and Joe seems to think Ferrari and Renault are the only options for STR and RBR respectively. So much for the idea of RBR poaching Honda engines.
Ron Dennis vetoed any Honda PU deal, because he has that contractual right and doesn't want Honda dividing its resources when even their undivided attention has resulted in a lawnmower engine.
Honda's current engine is crap? Shocker! Also, pope is catholic and bears do indeed sh!t in the woods. We're talking about next year and beyond. I'm not expecting the 2016 engine to challenge Merc, but it's a little foolish to spew out the same old guff about Honda's current unit every time someone mentions their name in relation to next year, no?
Does anyone know any more info on this? Was a bit of a shock for me, Bell, Booth, Lowdon and others are out. With the injection of Fitzpatrick's cash and the Merc and Williams deals, Manor's future looked rosy to me. Can't imagine what they disliked about this "future direction of the team"? And what are they all going to do next?
Except for the little detail that there are very severe restrictions on testing as well as mid season spec changes, which make catching up much harder.
They already know it's shortcomings and (largely) how to address them - they just can't do anything about inseason. I'm not expecting miracles, but to assume it's the same dog slow POS as this year is just plain silly.
I think they'd seen the pace of the Williams drop off a cliff and realised that if they went all the way on those tyres there was a chance someone on a different strategy might catch them. It was about that time that ricciardo really started munching into Massa's lead, since Williams had pitted far earlier than the redbulls.
There is always the possibility of them developing backwards though. Renault spent the whole of last year developing their engine around the pre-fuelling trick they came up with and then the FIA closed the loop hole. Or they could listen to Mclaren and go chasing gimmicks again. It was at Mclaren's behest they went for the current 'size zero' layout instead of Mercedes less aero but easier to cool method. Mclaren are nothing if not the kings of gimmicky design. But hopefully they will keep making progress, JB was much closer to the rest of the field this weekend, even if much closer still means stuck between STR and Manor.
They agreed to relax the restrictions. Mercedes and Ferrari have both said Renault and Honda could effectively start again with the tokens they have ( 36 I think it is again)
Every now and again I find my myself warming to lewis, then he comes out with something like this, and I remember why I find him so irksome. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/34706265 You beat the guy to the title, there's no need to be such a patronising f##kwit.
