    1. Not ALL micron D9 chips are good. That's like saying ALL mercedes benz's are super reliable and can do 400,000 miles without an oil change. Not true. D9GCT (wide-body), GMH, and GKX are the ones to look for.

    2. P5N32-E Plus does not use a 680i southbridge. It uses a 570i.

    :)

It's semantics... the 680i SLI MCP is the nForce 570i MCP... they're the same thing.

    1) We're talking general rule of thumb here. If you were scouting for performance memory you would look for D9s, end of :p

    2) The 570MCP is the southbridge on the 680i SLI and 780i SLI. It just reads easier and everyone knows what we mean when we say NB from 650i and SB from 680i.

EDIT: Damn you Tim and your ninja typing! :(

Good summary of the year. It might have been worth mentioning the stock availability problems for the 8800GT, the only tarnishing factor. :)

Nice! And I agree with most of bit-tech's findings. The most part would be the CPU cooler. I think the best is the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler.

It might be on the cards for next year since I have one but haven't got around to reviewing it yet (Jan sometime). It entirely depends on what fan you put on it though because none is supplied but, tbh, to me it just looks like yet another heatpipe + fins job which I can't see working any better than any number I've seen in the last year. It all depends on your tolerance to noise.

What about Corsair's Nautilus for cooling? (or was that last year)

    Good read tho!

well, in general i can agree with the list, but, the thermalright ultima 120 extreme deserves the top spot for cooling and the mx revolution the top spot if it comes to mouse... (or was mx revolution like last year?)

Sadly, we didn't get around to reviewing it this year, but as Rich has said, it will be reviewed very soon. We can't really pick things that haven't been looked at before we decide on our 'best' products of the year. :)

I'm ordering a q6600 this weekend (Christmas present to myself)
It's good to see that you recognized the first affordable quadcore as the best of the year, as opposed to the most expensive a la QX6___. I'll take affordable really good performance over overpriced slightly better performance.

And kudos for recognizing Asus, they've been good for years, but I also noticed that over the last year they have continually been in the headlines for pushing the limits with each new product.

Never mind reviewing it. All the 'others' allready did and with all the 'others' it won. So no point unless you do a review cooler roundup with all "brandnew" 2008 coolertypes.

mostly agree, just look at my system:
    Processor: Q6600, your best processor
Graphics: 8800GTX, one of your Notable Mentions, besides i got it for £190 before 8800GT came out :D
    Chipset: P35, your best chipset
Mobo: Abit iP35 Pro, your best motherboard
Memory....... don't think it's D9 chips, but still, similar performance at 4-4-4-12 800Mhz
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, hope to see the review of it :D
Chassis: Antec p182, your best PC chassis :)
how quite there with everything else yet, a value Logitech mouse, a Logitech media keyboard and a super cheap 2.1 speaker (fiver for one)....... but im working on the mouse part :)

Umm, it has? Since when did IBM take a very large share in the CPU market? Bit-tech seems to have gotten this wrong on several occasions now. Big blue = IBM, not Intel.

    Really...y'all should know better :|
