Hey everyone! I've been sitting at my Blade Desk and was thinking about what I could do to improve it. As time went on, the thoughts of making a new version started translated itself into a design. I think the time has come for an other Blade Desk, a Version 2, learning from the rookie mistakes I made with my first build, and also improving the overall design of the desk itself. 0.0 Design The main lines of the V1 desk will stay the same, fully made from 16mm MDF and a hidden compartment in the back and everything plugged toughter with special carpenter glue and cookies. The rest will change. The Desk will be longer since I really annoyed myself with the shortness of it. So far I'm thinking it will be 1,5m/~5feet long. The glass will be lain in the wood so the hole desk is leveled out at the same height. There will be a second hidden compartment, all the way to the right, this will house everything from HDD's to dvd-drives. In the right leg we will also have some drawers, nothing fancy just to store stuff in. In the left leg a 1080 radiator will be housed. I've been dreaming about that radiator ever since I've seen it in builds and it will be a perfect place for it. Front view Front view, top, sides and fan holes removed. What do you guys think of it so far? I like to make it as perfect as possible before going on to the actual build. ~Bladesingerz
I've been thinking of a desk mod for a while and the basic idea that I have been working around is to have everything on some sort of sliding mechanism to keep cleaning simple. For eg the rads could have their own area, with qd's to make it easy to disconnect and clean.
Hmm yeah quick disconnects would be quite usefull for some parts of the build I'm currently not using any dust filters and sprayed some compressed air trough the radiator once and it spit out a dust cloud. So yeah keeping it clean will be one of the new priorities this time.
Would you not thinking zabout another mod then a desk? there are allready so much Desk cases around, look for something original, never be seen before (very difficult)
Looks good so far mate, I would make a feature of the HDD's though rather than hiding them away. Also you could put the glass all the way across then as symmetry always helps make things look easier on the eye. Just a couple of thoughts...
I could make a completely new thing, but I really like desk mods! I was thinking of storing the HDD's in a hotswap bay (5HDD's in 3bays). Maybe I should design something to hold the HDD's? I like the design of the red cross desk, where they place all drives verticaly. You're right about the symmetry, it would make it allot beter. I'm thinking about switching the material to iron, thing is... I can't weld, never really learned it! Any ideas on how to connect pieces together? Are pull rivets any use for this task? What should I look after for designing this thing? ~Bladesingerz
