Well i'm back from a looong vacation and it seems i've caught insomnia or something along those lines. The last time I slept was Friday Night, woke up at 3pm on saturday afternoon and been up ever since. Oddly i'm still not tired so I decided to make a little thread to track my progress. So far i seem a little bit delirious and feel like I have a bit of a buzz going on even though I have drank nothing. Its getting harder to think, and my attention span has gone down the crapper. I've had music on pretty much the entire time i've been awake and its starting to get quite annoying, but keeps me on my toes. Honestly i'm shooting for atleast 50-60 hours, as of now, its been around 42 hours.
This reminds me of a show on Channel 4 here in the UK a while back, called something like Shattered, where contestants had to stay awake for a whole week. Now thats hardcore! Good luck in your insomniac quest
Yeah, last week, i didn't sleep from 9am sunday till some time Tuesday or Wednesdaay. It was at least 52 hours. It happens to me every so often. Normally I don't sleep well anyway (can never sleep until past 3-4am) but sometimes, I can't sleep for a couple of days. It really sucks.
I've always found it odd that every 24 hours or so (at the time when you'd normally wake up) that you'll catch a brief surge in energy. Your body knows its the time to be awake but it doesn't realize that you haven't been to sleep yet. Sugar doesn't help much as it only causes you to crash hard when the effects run out, I've found that eating lots of carbs tends to get me going more than anything else. They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day so why not eat it more than once.
Yeah, the good thing (if there is a good thing) about it is that if you haven't been able to sleep for a couple of days, then the sleep after that is really satisfying. It's the only good night's sleep I really get.
Either way, your body will shut down and your suceptibleness (i love making up spelling for rarely used words) to disease will be increasing in proportion to the loss of your concentration span.
I woke up last wednesday about 12, went into campus and sat infront of the same computer terminal until 10am on friday, only leaving once (for about an hour) to get some food and a beer (aside from going to the toilet)! It works out at over 40hours of solid work in a row!!! I finally made it to bed on Saturday morning at 6am after some end of term partying and poker playing!! Needless to say I slept for a very very long time!!! Definately a record for me!!
My hopes are pinned on psychotic as life is boring at the mo' (dissertation study to write so engaging in endless procrastination...never before have I felt it necessary to organise my sock draw )
Yes, I remember that- a girl from our neighbours Poole won it They were given short naps once a day, but they weren't long enough for the body to feel recharged in any sense, it was just to make sure they didn't drop dead or something similar. <A88>
I second the vote for psychotic......... Does it work on a majority rules basis? The longest I've been up is probably about just over 30 hours.... I had to work a 24 hour shift doing network monitoring. Wasn't too hard, though just as I was going to bed, my sister-in-law mis-dialed the hairdresser, and called me wanting to book a hair appointment.......The next morning I was convinced that I dreamed the whole thing, until she apologized for waking me....LOL
strange ppl, i LOVE my sleep. I always get at least 7hrs each night and within 5 mins of my head hitting the pillow im out like a light. Weekends are my fovorite times as i can sleep in for 10 hours!!!!! Shame i dont dream while im asleep tho :S
Sadly, boredom got to me and once my vision started to blurr I decided it was a good time to get some rest. I fell asleep around 6am and woke up just fifteen minutes ago. Ah, what a wonderfull 11 hours that was. I have to stay I could of probably stayed up for much longer if I had 1) someone with me or 2) a television. The internet is qUite boring at 5am..
That's still cruel to me and makes it more hard to do the task. It's a teaser getting short naps u might feel the urge to sleep for longer
On the subject of concentration, try this out, it's really amazing if you get it to work. I managed to count to ten, quite slowly while the second hand was seemed to be stopped. Dunno how it works! ch424
