Except they missed the bit where she strengthened our ties to and position within the European Union... It will be interesting/terrifying to see what happens this winter. My new computer fund is now my utility bill fund, but millions upon millions of people don't have several thousand pounds they can just throw at something. I probably won't by spring either. What will the government do with with millions of people who can't pay their bills and what will happen to the utility companies abruptly faced with (tens of) billions in bad debts? No doubt it will be the fault of Your Rope somehow.
As mentioned earlier, it does bring back memories of the poll tax riot era. With that in mind, it really does seem like the blonde flip-flop is pulling a Teresa May and actively fighting to drink from a poison chalice.
They'll get a government bailout paid for by me and thee, obviously. At, if I had to guess, between two and three times the overall cost of just flamin' renationalising the buggering things.
We'll see some of these utility companies re-nationalised, mark my words. It'll happen when the infrastructure is on the bones of its arse and we'll step and flood it with billions in taxpayer cash; which will create such a burden on the country that the government will flog off to the private sector, who will milk all that brand new equipment for the next three decades.
Rule of tory decision/policy making - What is the dumbest option? Whatever they eventually do... which will be too late and/or will require them to have been dragged kicking and/or screaming to doing anything... will make whatever that is/was look like a big brained genius move.
I tested positive on Tuesday. Symptoms started the Saturday before, so been feeling very iffy for a week now. I was on annual leave for the first half of the week, so that's been wasted. I have to test on Monday, if clear I have to test again Tuesday and if that's clear too I can return to work. If not I have to keep testing until 2 clear days or 10 days in, whichever comes first. The severity of the symptoms I'm feeling seem to come in waves, I might feel better for a couple of hours, then feel like crap for the next couple of hours. Just glad I don't have it as bad as my mum did, she was in hospital for over 3 months with it and we nearly lost her.
If you are off sick during annual leave, that annual leave is not deducted from your allowance because you're officially on sick leave rather than annual leave. My wife tested positive just on the day I was discharged from hospital after surgery. We slept top-to-toe in the same bed with a fan set up behind me on a gentle breeze to keep airflow moving away from me. We kept 2m distance during the day and made sure not to share cups etc. Miraculously, my wife recovered after about a week without lasting effects and I never caught it.
Depends wholly on the employer, if I want to claim holiday leave back if I'm ill during the leave I have to produce a Dr's note / certificate, if the illness dosen't warrant a trip down to the GP then it's tough titties sunshine. Don't know if a different system was put in place during the lockdowns because getting to take leave was tricky with most of the staff on furlough. Edit - It appears I may be wrong
This is a doozy. Temperature. Head crushed in a vice. Aches. Nerve endings flipping out. Tickiy cough. Sore throat the type I've not had since glandular fever/tonsillitis. It's manageable, just hope it's not followed by fatigue. My OH is two days ahead of me and although improving still has the hacking cough every now and then.
