yeah...no. gamers get pissed off at the difference in lag between a wired and wireless mouse. sending the controller signal to a server 1000mi away and waiting for a response isn't going to go over too well, methinks.

    That vid, at Gamespot, OMG.
This, honestly, will revolutionise gaming. Even with a teeny bit of lag.

I just can't wait for local UK servers (read: 0ms lag ;))

I'm sure this sort of system will probaly be common place in the future, I just didn't think we were there yet. On the plus side for a small nation like the UK, one central center would be more like 100/200 miles if that for most people, but I still can't beilive there wouldn't be any lag. I wonder if any console companies will be "borrowing" any ideas for the next gen.

People will start concentrating on overclocking and modding their custom-built NICs, and will of course water cool their ethernet cables.

    lol classic

I'm supersceptical as on my fibre 20MB line I battle to find a descent L4D server, but then ONlive would be one central data centre so.....so by 2010/12 when Virgin has there 150Mbps network then maybe....I just don't think it possible to move your mouse clicking furiously and bashing on the keyboard having those inputs uploaded over the internet to the datacentre which communicates it to the game resolving the input to actions and then encoding that video and sending it back to me where the video is encoding and I don't notice

maybe thats why they showed Prince of Persia and Crysis etc and not a fast paced FPS? though the baseball bit with the pitch and hit did show latency not a issue but they never said they were running that off the onlive servers located whereever, more likely just a machine in the back

I'm voting it being an Aprils fools.....though hope its not

Over time, this WILL become brilliant. Right now, i think it'll be playable for lot of games, just not perfect yet. It makes a lot of sense from a commercial point of view though. They can start charging us for subscriptions and usage, just like phone companies. Subscriptions are always a better business model then single sales of hardware. They effectively get rid of piracy, black hardware markets that offer no income, and a lot of compatibility issues, all in one concept.

This, or something similar, WILL become succesful in the not-so distant future. What i wonder is if it will coëxist with user-owned hardware (act as a PC) or build up a completely separate network (act as a console).

I'm in the Netherlands, so sadly i wont get to try this for a while yet, but i guess we'll see...

Yeah, but if you look at the bandwidth required for a decent resolution, you'll need that 150mbps connection to play at the resolution of most 24-28" monitors now.

Great for consoles, not good for the PC gamer.
