I dont have tool envy. These mills are the equivalent of spud guns, good fun and no one got hurt (much)

Unlike the Fanuc's and Bridgeports at work that have tool changers/banks bigger than the room I currently sit in......

When did reasoned interaction become a pissing contest? :sigh:

Wasnt worth it Teelze, its just a hobby machine really. Besides,it would of taken longer to do all the pics than it would of taken to build it!

I would rock the SS wheels but they will wreck the extrusion with the gantry weight, unless im incorrect in this? Maybe linear bearings could be justified down the line but there is too many small things that are holding me back from investing in it,building one is almost a certainty down the line. Working for a Heidenhain subsidiary will help with this, lots of very clever guys to squeeze info from, especially about motor control.

the bearing blocks I ended up getting was over £30 each and I used 12 of them so yeah expensive, But there's no movement , flexing or any kind of play in the machine it's totally rigid which is the only way you'll get the accuracy especially with thicker and harder materials.

Yeah, one of the reasons not to for me,I have no interest in steels etc,Alu and acrylic is fine for me...however the accuracy is very important to me,especially for finishing passes. I might splurge on a set of steel v wheels after all,it might be worth just hard chroming the extrusion and giving them a whirl.

......thats not in the groping car.....

Hardcore perving, standard groping is not enough for the Japanese, they have dedicated areas for it. Tentacles optional.

    Well mandatory actually,sorry about that.

    Thanks mate

So as I'm still waiting on materials coming, I've been making a few odd pieces.

First what will be the motherboard tray

    And next the perspex window

    Cut and trimmed

    Fits perfect

So I end up with a flat pack computer case lol

I'm considering using glass in stead of Perspex on the top not sure yet though:idea: that should please Cheapskate

    A small update
I've designed the bottom and put in some ventilation nice piece of 6mm plate

    The bottom plate

The case still needs to be riveted etc but all fits well, The back is all tapped and screwed because that will be the way in to the case
