For the average Joe? Kevo is probably right - higher prices. As if things didn't cost too ****ing much in Rip-Off Britain as-is. For big business/industry? They'd gain a lot, due to the lack of exchange rates etc. Why do you think most companies are pulling out of Britain and choosing to go to the mainland. Everything is much cheaper when you only have one rate to deal with.
Correct me if I'm talking complete rubbish, but I thought that if we had the euro then people would be able to directly compare prices here with those on the mainland and after a while that would force retailers to lower their prices.
Thats what I think Adam. With another problem from buying abroad gone, retailers are going to start noticing more and more people buying internationally.
we're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't, its a double edges sword and life is full of clichés
Things would still be more expensive, after the Euro came in on the mainland everything went up. It's a rip-off on the continent too. lol
yep keep us out... its evil, its run by dodgy ppl and its evil, did i mention its run by dogy ppl? anyway, keep us out. i don't have much of an explanation cept i don't like it
i dont really want it, i like the pounds and pence, and the middles dont fall out of our british money
when i pull a note or a coin out of my wallet i want a picture of our queen, save the pound, its nice its british
Don't forget, when CDs came out, they were 'supposed' to become cheaper than casettes. The manufacturing costs were cheaper, so naturally the cost savings would be passed on to the consumer. We're still waiting for that
The tabloids are a problem with the whole referendum issue. Well they're a problem anyway, but... Newspapers like The Sun want to sell papers. So they appeal to the most basic instincts of national protectionism and take the whole "we don't want those idiots in Brussels controlling us blah blah blah". And the readers lap it up, and start spouting ill informed anti-europe rubbish. Then we have a referendum, expecting the public to be educated enough to understand the complex economic arguments involved. They simply aren't, and will vote against it for reasons of blind "patriotism". No to a referendum!
It is all about uniformity, investment and business and fiscal policy (However, from where are they derived?!) that are the positives of the Euro. However, there do seem to be just as many negatives to joing the single currency, so as yet I personally am still against the idea. Nevertheless, in time it may well become a realistic option for the UK!
