Sorry for turning this thread into showing off the power of the new 2005 Pontiac GTO with its 6.0 V8 LS2 with 400HP/400Tq and its pwnage ram-air hood. :)

400 what? There is no such unit of measurement as 'a torque'.

Torque is a force which is measured in either pounds per square foot or Newtons per metre squared.

Well, I picked her up on Saturday morning.... OMG! The car is HORRENDOUSLY fast! It truly is a white knuckle ride! Hit the acellerator in 2nd, and as long as you don't break traction it flies like hot poo off a waxed shovel!

as for bland... oooh no, not this one baby! I'll get some pics up ASAP, but she needs a clean (damn dirty birmingham roads!) I just can't believe how great the car is, got all the luxuries! Electric seats even! Not a light car either, weight is 1400kgs

and the noise...... oooooooh! It rises.... rises, as if, you were the thundergod himself. <blatant Gladiator rip> oh well, I NEVER have to do a 3pt turn again, just turn the steering, boot it and the car will swing around nicely :D

Not the best pic in the world, the car is FILTHY! Needs a good clean this weekend, popped into our local BMW garage this morning, just to give the engine a once over check. The VANOS unit is making a bit of a rattle, and they've decided it should be changed now before it gets worse, and the car has just blinked up on the service lights that it needs an oil service done.

The girl in the garage said, "The engineers have had a listen, and the VANOS should be replaced, its £918 + vat for the VANOS & £200+VAT labour." I nearly cried, then she said, "But as a goodwill gesture, BMW are supplying the parts Free" w00t! New bits for free, all I pay is the labout for the replacment, and I'm getting the oil service done free. Pretty sbiffy for a full day's work.. only problem is, I can't go to the skidpan day this weekend :waah:

The guy in the garage said the car was perfectly fine to drive, and that the VANOS had plenty of life, just that it should be replaced ASAP, but I don't want to risk revving the tits off my car next weekend and have it go then!

In the UK we have to have a number plate on the front of our cars aswell as the back.

The swirl is just so that everyone doesn't know Phats registration!

Itll be looking sweet after a nice clean :)

How wide are those rear tires? They look pretty big in that photo!

edit: what actually does the VANOS unit do?

    They're 250X45X17's

So 250MM wide, 45mm Thick and 17 Rim. Aint gonna be cheap to replace!! :duh:

As Penski says, the VANOS is the variator which squeezes as much power out of the engine as possible. There are two common faults on these units, gear wear and shearing bolts. If it blows, it usually takes the engine out with it! :jawdrop:

But thats nothing compared to the problems the S54 series engines have! (2001 models onwards)

    250mm wide, 45 refers to aspect ratio, so they're 45% of 250 thick ;) (112.5mm)

Nice car :D /me wishes student loan would stretch that far

Wow, that's less than i'd have thought. The tyres on the back of my mum's beemer are 255x[whatever
x18. If you'd asked me to guess I'd have put my money on yours being 285x[whatever]x17 at least (or something bigger than my mums anyway!) :eeek: Not like 250 is small or anything though :p

And no, definately not cheap to replace :D

Even smaller! But I have read somewhere that wider tyres would cause the car to tramline beyond control.

Looking into the possibility of getting a Racelogic traction control kit. Not so much for the traction control (the car is fun as it is :hip: ) but more for the Launch Control
Basically press a button, and a new rev limit is set, usually around 4,000 RPM. Floor the pedal and drop the clutch (not instantly though!) the traction control will reign in the spins and the car acellerates stupidly :)

Scroll to the bottom of this page and download the ZM3 Vid.
