You had a bit of a Wills look didn't you They have Loads of them, just have to flick through their proprietary boards, about half are this thin dual CPU layout.
I think it will be between the Tyan and this supermicro board : http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DTT.cfm This one is missing the IPMI 2.0 and the infiniband connectors (but I really do not need it), thus dropping the price down. Have to check it's availability and price in France.
/sticks fingers in ears No! I'm not listening to you, evil tempter!!! I could easily adapt my design but the price for all the components would become too much... And I promised myself that I would keep it easily upgradable. Still, a dual CPU, 16 core system would be tempting... No! I'M NOT LISTENING!!!
* cavernal voice mode : ON * Listen to me ... half SSI is good for your health Fall for it ! Come to the dark side of the Relix. Feed him with nice hardware. * cavernal voice mode : OFF * Thats what I'm living these days
I'm blow away with this thread ... they don't have an emoticon with the jaw shattering hitting the floor, and eyeballs exploding.. So glad I caught that article in this latest news letter about modding forums. brought me here. excellent excellent stuff all around! sub'd
Thanks a lot mate ! I try to do my best to share the idea with this community . I have a whole lot of design in mind, but not enough time to make them. Right now I'm trying to go further with the monolith range of case. I'm designing them in details (drive baies, panel opening, chassis, accessories, etc.). Hope I'll have something to show soon
Hi mates, a little teasing ... very little as I'm feeling like playing a lil' . The picture above show a part of the tallest member of the monolith family. Who will be the first one to find what it is ? A little clue : it'll be about 1m50 tall ! More clues to come all night long. Guess well and good luck EDIT #1 : Second component, since it is maybe too difficult
Ok, another clue : All is a matter of light Now you have all the main parts, just have to assemble everything together . This gives me time to achieve the "draft" modeling.
Parts are : - 1x HQI 400W - 37000 lumens light bulb - 1x Concentration lense - 1x Light reflector - 2x Fresnel lenses - 1x 15,4" WUXGA lcd panel (1920x1200) - 1x Controler board (HDMI inputs, LVDS connector) - 1x Optical mirror - 1x Projection objective (focal around 500mm) Still no idea ? OK ... I hereby present you the first member of the monolith family : CYCLOPE It is a floorstander full HD videoprojector. It includes a complete HTPC and a 5.1 amp on it's base. This is just a first shot ... the outside will change, it's just a rough . I feel like adding a motorized iris that will open/close on power up/down. The objective will be motorized aswell for convenient sharpness adjustment. What do you think of it ?
That's not that easy to build I'm afraid. The problem is within the 90° turn of the image. A simple mirror will heavily blurr the image and a prisma needs a hell lot of accuracy to place in the right spot. The easiest way I've seen people building DIY-beamers is by using an old projector like this...
Yep, but I've seen a lot of project logs with very good results. It doesn't seems that complicated (the main problem will be the mirror, I have to find a special one). Those projector based beamer are similar to what I'm planing : Lightbox -> fresnel -> panel -> objective -> mirror (I just have the mirror before the objective). This is a good log (in french) : http://autogire-rc.over-blog.com/article-construction-d-un-video-projecteur-full-hd-62118803.html He used a mirror and get very sharp image Here are other project logs (some not using a mirror) : http://www.allinbox.com/allinbox2010.htm This is just a planing ... and a dream around a monolithic shape. I'd really like to have a VP, I do hate those big TV screen. I'd prefear a VP and a motorized projection screen. A little comp with a sofa :
* oops ... post been published twice * EDIT : The mirror has to be an OPTICAL mirror. This is a special type of mirror used in camera, projector, telescope or any kind of image/light related application.
Love the concept. How about making a matching pair (or more for surround sound) of floorstanding speakers to go with it?
