Folks, old hat I know but does anyone have a definitive parts list and guide for making the N40L silent? I may relocate mine to the lounge or kitchen but it'd need to be silent (bar the hard disc noise, I can live with that).

    Ta muchly!

    Cleggy.

Nice work, there's nowt as satisfying as a good server build!

You running v5 of OMV? Which plugins? If so how does it compare to v4?

I have also got SSH up and running nicely but still trying to make my subsonic and music cabinet sorted as it says my postgreSQL isnt working!

    Any tips?

Unfortunately i havent got any experience with v4 so cant compare the two

Postgresql - try initiating it before installing any plugins. Found this issue trying to install cloudera recently.

I upgraded OMV to v5 over the weekend. Very simple and a huge step forward over v4 by way of the new plugins.

A word of note, make sure you remove all existing plugins, including the repositories, prior to the upgrade, and that you only attempt to install v5 compatible plugins once done. Failure to do this will render you unable to log in via a browser.

I know I need to upgrade but it doesn't half scare me that I may break my current build - I do not want to rebuild my raid or transfer my files! Looks like most of the plugins I use wouldn't work at this time so I'll delay upgrading until they are ported to .5

Looks like just about every plugin has been upgraded?

I don't use RAID, and ended up just making a new OS boot disc, plugging it in, and it recognised all my existing data discs. The command line upgrade worked but I fu'd a couple of plugins hence had to start from scratch.

Is anyone using the Microserver as digital video recorder for Freesat HD?

Is it possible to view the feed live? using what software?

Synology Video station seems to be able to do this, providing the NAS has floating point unit and fast enough. Coupled with DSVideo app on smart TV's, it appears to be able to achieve TiVo multiroom without subscription fee.

From what I've seen, I need to buy a Synology Ds214Play plus a USB DVB-S2 to to achieve feature similar to TiVo multiroom (live TV viewing in any room, record in one room, view in a different room). I am wondering whether the Microserver is fast enough to do this with the right software and hardware.

I use an AMD APU which is clocked lower than the CPU in the Microserver and it copes fine recording 2 X HD video and powering my media center.

I even had my Pi recording but it was maxing out. :)

    So you should be good.

Going into the software. Tvheadend on Linux is great.
Run this on your recording box and tuck it out of the away.
Throw as many TV cards as you want on it.

Then you can use the client version to connect up systems which will stream video from the recorder and recordings to it.
I'm only running all mine off my media center but I'd got plans to build another home server and stack at many dual tuner SB2 cards in there as I can.

And then each room with a TV has a Rasp Pi with the tvheadend client.

are you doing DVB-S2 HD contents or SD contents?

How many Gen8s are kicking around here?

I'm thinking this would make a bit of a beast with a E3-1265Lv3 2 inside, but the 45w TDP compared to the 35w TDP of the G2020T raises concern. Google throws up a few results, but limited detail with regards to temps or aftermarket cooling options.

E3-1220Lv2 would comfortably fit at only 17w, but then it's not a massive step up from the G2020T.

Simples, a few typos and you're on your way! But I bet you could have figured that out all on your own :p

Just a (hopefully) quick question. With my N36L if I was to add in a RAID card (RocketRaid 2300 for example) and a 5.25" to 4 x 2.5" adapter in the ODD bay would I be able to boot from one of the 2.5" drives attached to the RAID card?

    Cheers!
