Had the text message from O2 at 8:02 (Hah - marketing bods using that old chestnut again!) Spent 5 minutes clicking on refresh to get the o2 upgrade site (why send the text out to everyone and still have a maintenance parking page up?) But - fingers crossed - I'll be getting a swanky new 16gb black iPhone 3g on Friday morning! Yay! What about you? Are you upgrading? Planning on Purchasing an iPhone for the first time? Making it an 'event' on the 11th? I'm a little peeved that I can't go to an Apple store like I did last November - that was a cool experience - but I guess it's the price we pay for living in the iPhone unlocking capital of the world.
I'm going to be getting the 3g iphone when rogers changes their Canadian plans to something reasonable.
According to posts over at Mac Rumours, the O2 upgrade site has completely melted under the strain. Glad I got into work early today, so I could get the order in before the servers got turned to chunky salsa.
I'm going to get one, and actually use it on O2, but I'm in no rush - I'll get one when there's no lines etc, probably at the same time as upgrading my laptop. AH
heh. The only reasoning for me getting what the register affectionately calls "the jesus phone" is to sell it here. No suppliers for the thing here, and no network providers that can cater for the iPhone (even the old EDGE one just won't work on the data networks here...). Still, for some reason, people are willing to pay HUGE sums of money for it here... i've only seen 2 IRL. I'd buy it (somewhere discounted, preferably), sell it here, and buy something else. a HTC Touch Diamond and a new Graphics card.
I want one but O2 still haven't sent me anything nor the missus. The site is also now saying that it's sold out so my chances of getting one within the next year are slim I guess ::edit:: oh, they did send me an email at 7:30, just after I left the house.. balls.
Ill be getting on when my upgrade is due in Sept. If they don;t offer me one i shall be buying on Pay as you go. I was lucky to get my offline one on the cheap and ive never been happier. But theres no way im changing the contract i currently have.
When they put 3G signal in my area, I'll get one. Maybe. Really only if I can bully AT&T into giving me my current rates and plan specs on the new phone (3G+200 texts is $15/mo more than my current 2.5G+200 texts plan; screw that).
You won't be disappointed lads, its a nice phone, though... To be honest, at the moment, I'm not very interested in the iPhone, or the 3G version... It is a brilliant phone when I had one I enjoyed the interface, but I thought it was highly overrated when you look at these rave reviews which it gets... and the only people who appreciated it were people who are absolute cocks (people who buy Rolex's at 17, and Audi TT's at 18). My fatboy N95 Black seems like a much more satisfying phone. Not only does it turn heads and make my peen feel big, but also, it has eliminated the need for me to take any other gadget anywhere. Honestly, unless I intend to do some hardcore photography, or video a wedding event, or go scuba diving, the N95 Black has replaced everything - MP3 Player (8GB W00t!), Camera (5 Mega Pixel), PSP (n-gage gaming makes long tube/bus journeys nice and short), Memory Stick/portable hard drive (just one cable, and its done), Watch (though I still wear one anyway)... and I would have to recommend it.
I wanted to order one today but the site was having a horrible time - kept crashing and the order would never go through. I gave up in frustration. I guess il try walk in and get one at a store!
Lol, in all seriousness, there is a lot of quick fun to be had. I play GBA games on my emulator, or some games which I bought recently of t'internet... I suppose it would be fun to try some of these new homebrew apps being released by the iPhone community as well. The N95 is quite a good video player, and can handle pretty good resolutions, though for the sake of file size, I shrink it and convert to MP4 or 3GP. With a set of good headphones, its as good as an Archos.
n95 is for people who know nothing about phones and 9/10 times are a foreign worker. New iphone is hype, again. Sat nav with no route navigation, niiiice. Will sell them a plenty and make a nice wad of the end bonus but nevermind
It's not really a 'sat nav' in the most traditional sense though... It's just Google Maps with added GPS functionality. I think that's perfect for most people that want that quick mapping access on their phone. I think if anyone wants a proper sat nav application to use in the car they're more likely to hold out for the likes of Tom Tom's and Garmin's iPhone App offerings.
