You can keep your old number whatever network you are on, both Vodafone and Orange will accept a PAC code after you've set the contract up to move your number over...

They must have run out.... I have my confirmation email saying a 32Gb has been reserved for me, and MrsGoo has one for hers as well.

I think you are right GOO. As I was going to pre-order the first time I could see 32GB. I closed and re-opened the browser window and came back 5 minutes later to be greeted by 16GB only.

Not that I mind, I can't afford the 32GB model's extra cost and I never used more than 5GB of my existing 16GB iPhone 3G anyway.

Anyone else going to the Soton store?

Strange as I can still order one online if I want it sim free.

This is getting to be difficult, but I'm not beaten yet.

I ordered a 16GB iPhone 4 today, can't wait till the 24th. £500 my bank account lost a few digits lols.

I'm debating weather to cut my sim to a microsim size or ask o2 for a new one.

Would love one SIM free but have an upgrade from VF due shortly so must hold out! 2 new gadgets in as many months is craziness, and to add to that they have updated the Mini today as well, which I have been waiting for for some time.

Still awaiting news from o2 on how to get out of my 3GS contract here! No way would I pay that much for a phone, it's all about the 18 month contract tbh!

May get myself a new mac mini while at it, the unibody one looks sweet. First thing I'd have to do though is wipe off OSX and stick Win7 on there :p

    You pay for the privilage:

    http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/earlyupgradeoffer.html

£20 for each complete calendar month outstanding on your contract.

As for the initial outlay for the handset, I'm signing up for a 2 year contract with whoever I go with - I'll skip iPhone 5, and go for iPhone 6 in 2012. :)

With a 2 year contract on the same PPM as I'm on, I'm betting that what I get for my old iPhone will cover the cost of the upgrade.

I'm with you on this. Can anyone tell us why? Or are we going to have to spell it out?

TBH, I'd do the same. Just don't get on with OSX personally. The missus has also fought with it on her Macbook for the last couple of years and is now pushing for me to put Win7 on there as she doesn't get on with it.

It's not everyone's cup of tea that's for sure :)

Successfully de-railed an iPhone thread there though eek, wp.

Yeah I saw that. I simply assumed that Apple were only selling Pay&Go phones/new contracts and leaving the mobile networks and their shops to sort out these things.

I'm not sure how I'd be with a 24 month contract. 6 months into my 3GS I was itching for a new phone/toy to play with. Now I'm 12 months in and I still have 6 to go and it's killing me!

I think in future I'll just get pay&go and stick to one of the cheap o2 simplicity tariffs - the TCO won't be much different but I'll be able to fuel my phone addiction easier!

Hopefully with the high cost of iPhone4 and the discontinuation of the 3GS 16GB/32GB the resale value of the 3GS will remain relatively high (once the rush to sell is over of course). Should negate most, if not all, of my next handset.
Heh, I knew that's touch a nerve! The new mac mini is a thing of beauty (especially now it has no power brick), but I'm a Windows developer so can't live without it. Anyway, it's off topic...back to the phone.

    FAIL HARDER.

Seriously, If nobody gets this I'll be fairly surprised at the lack of common sense among you.

Let's try it again - Why would it be stupid and unnecessary (THERE I'VE SPELT IT OUT FOR YOU) for anyone to do this?

The way I see it, I've had my 3G for 2 years without issue. I was on an 18 Month contract with that, so I've paid another 6 months on top anyway as the contract rolled over on to month by month. So a 2 year contract wouldn't make any difference to me as I've paid 2 years worth of monthly fees anyway... and if you explicitly sign up for 24 months, they knock more money of the handset.

I lusted after a 3GS when they came out, but then I thought about it a bit more - it didn't really offer a vast amount over my 3G, and I'd have had to pay to get out of my contract 6 months early.

I can see this happening again over iPhone 5 - it'll offer a couple of new features above 4, but you could live another 12 months without them, and wait for the redesign in iPhone 6.

Quit derailing the thread and just make the point you want to make. :blah:

We have four AT&T phones in our household, but only two upgrades available this year.. I'm going to buy myself an iPhone 4 sometime soon, but my dad and sister are fighting over who will get the other one. They decided to have a weight loss competition, and whoever gets their BMI into the healthy zone first wins. It's pretty fun to see this go on.. They wrote up a contract with clauses like "..if recipient of iPhone doesn't maintain healthy BMI, iPhone is automatically forfeited to other contestant..". Serious business.

The obvious point here, is if you don't want a mac/MacOS, don't buy a mac, buy/build a PC.
At least I Assume thats the point Unicorn is getting at. But that seems too obvious to even make a point about
    [/de-railment]

I got a nice e-mail from Orange, got all excited that they were going to announce their tariff and pricing on the handset, then opened it to find a nice "iPhone 4 is launched on the 24th".
Like I didn't already know
