    i've been asked £38, apparently first month plus a bit into 2nd bill :( Vodafone are really greedy compared to 3.

    Three seem to be doing an insanely good deal until the end of July.

    £25 a month for:
    500 minutes (anytime, any network)
    5000 texts
    1GB internet
    5000 Three-to-Three minutes

    and the 32Gb handset for £129.

    Yeah, but that's a 3GS... I'd rather have an iP4 than a 3GS, regardless of percieved flaws with reception.

    • It's faster
    • More memory
    • iOS4 works on it properly, and doesn't feel like they've left the handbrake on
    • Has a better screen
    • Hi Def Video recording
    • Better stills pics
    • FaceTime front camera (or NostrilCam, as we call it)
    • N Wireless, and Faster 3G uploads

    If you're going to get stuck into a 24 month contract, you may as well get the newest hardware there is. You're going to be using it for 2 years, after all. :)

    You know something, I never even noticed it was a 3GS. I was up at quarter to 4 this morning.

    Fail.

    Yeah, if only that was an iPhone 4 *dreams*

    TBH, the deal on the iP4 I got from them was great, and not that much more.

    A 32GB iP4 for £189 on a 2 year £30ppm contract. Cheaper than the other big players. And don't forget, you can offset the cost of the new handset by recycling your old one. My 2 year old 3G got me £183 from Mazuma. :)

    Yeah, I have a LG Renoir that is trying it's best to kill itself. The speaker is half gone, the touchscreen keeps stopping responding. I've had to open it up and fix it about 3 times now.

    I jumped in a fountain in Zurich last week and forgot to take it out my pocket (along with my wallet). Which didn't exactly help matters.
    It still works but I think it's worth diddly f**k all.

    As I keep saying, the problem is not that Apple is particularly good at making stuff (although it is); it is that the others are so bad at it. My case in point: here's an HTC concept that an 18-year old dreamt up:

    But one (massive) problem with high end concepts, like the one linked, is sales.

    When a company knows their expensive to design/manufacture phone (or any other consumer electronic device) is going to sell very well, they can afford to sell it for an expensive, but fair, price (i.e. iPhone).

    But if you're a company lacking in brand equity (i.e. HTC) and don't have the luxury of knowing it will sell well, thus taking a 'punt', you have to charge a fortune to make up for the few people that will actually buy it (slight chicken and the egg situation), just in order to alone make back a fraction of the R&D costs.

    If HTC were to manufacture a phone that's even close to the engineering quality of the iPhone4 (ignoring the antenae issues), they would probably have to charge a lot more for it, due to them being unable to guarantee moving 2 million in as many days.
